Want Better Sound from Your PC?

Fancy an active Isobaric (oh yes, with a 'C') system on the cheap?

I've just got one of these:-

Sub in situ. Back of top driver visible through the metal grille. The bottom driver output vents through a tuned port back to the top of the cabinet:-

Satellite showing mid and top drivers:-

Satellites and controls (wired and remote) in situ:-

Detail of supplied controls:-

Comapred to the usual boom-box systems for PCs the bass sure goes deep and clean and is nicely controlled and tuneful - spec'd down to 32Hz!

Good clarity attainable in the mid and top too thanks to the tone controls.

Eighty quid delivered, from Play dot com.

John,

Looks neat, but I'm not sure why you have bothered, when it looks like your system is in the same room? Having looked at your profile it is some system too!

I had some Altec Lansing stuff on my computer a while back, but the sub kept humming all the time, which was so irritating and intrusive that in the end it was sent back and I was given a refund.

Now I just use a little set of Sony active speakers for listening to things that need sound, but music is always on the system behind my computer chair Big Grin

Regards

I find its sound quite involving. Why is it that such a cheap system can be so engaging, I wonder?

Hi Nic,

It wees on that rubbish Naim system!

But seriously though, I replay Beeb radio progs and enjoy 'Arrow Classic Rock' on-line. No point putting these inferior sources through a good system.

The new PC loudspeaker system is sounding even better with some running, and is staggeringly good v.f.m. The depth, tunefulness and clarity of the bass is something else.

As Richard says, the system produces a remarkably enjoyable and involving sound, given the source material.

Boom box is just what I got when I fitted a 3 box solution on my PC,it sits in a cupboard collecting dust.

Thanks for the tip John, I found them for the equivalent of 40 quid with free freight and they really are rather good.

In fact, not having bothered at all with computer speakers before, I like everything about them. The satellites are unobtrusive on the desk, the sub fits out of sight under, they seem well put together and the sound is more than acceptable, nicely balanced with no boomy or flabby bass.

Listening to Radio Arrow right now, playing some excellent electric blues.

Well spotted all round that man.
