Another rack question
Posted by: NB on 05 April 2003
I am thinking of purchasing another Fraim stack to place my power amps on. I am intending to place my Xerxes turntable on the top of the second stack.
Is having the power amps directly under the turntable going to cause an interference problem for the turntable?
Regards

I generally wouldn't recommend it as the amps create a fairly strong EM field, generate a substantial amount of AC line oscillation noise and the relatively high combined masses will tend to store energy and re-release that energy back into the system, resulting in time related smearing and obscuration of low level detail.
You'd be better off by getting the amps away from the Roksan and placing your lighter weight, less "noisey" components on the the TT stand or dedicating a rack soley to the support of the turntable.
Best,
Ken

NB,
in case you don't recognise the Neuance name, Ken designs racks for a living...
cheers, Martin

Ken,
thanks for that, I suppose the same is true of the CD player?
Martin,
thanks for the tip, I have heard of Neuance and I appreciate all advice given.
