DVD5 - HDMI scrambled?

Hi all,
For the first time I've hooked up the output of the DVD5 to my plasma. However the plasma is showing a colourful scrambled picture like white noise but with colour thrown in. Occaisionally when I first plug the cable in a get the correct picture for a fraction of a second, but then it reverts back to the noise.
Thinking that the plasma may be the issue I hooked the DVD5 up to the projector which had the same result.
I'm using an HDMI to HDMI cable with a DVI convertor at the DVD5 end.
To check the output of the DVD5 I checked that it worked with a SCART lead to the plasma and it was fine.
Any suggestions on what is wrong and why the HDMI connection is scrambled? Hopefully it's nothing to do with this copy protection nonsense which doesn't work with the DVI convertor?

Hi Andy,
I sometimes get a scrambled picture on my projector.I normaly have to turn off the DVD5 from the remote,with the projector on, then press play on the DVD5.This usually works bit of a pain though.
I hope that makes sence.

It may well be a CP issue. unlikely to be the converter though. Does component output work. This will deduce if the hi-def board has a fault.

(can you specify DVD5 s/n, plasma model/make, cable lengthsetc).

I had a similar experience recently with my DVD5 and a Chord HDMI cable conected through a DVI/HDMI converter. Tried everything, switched unit off, unplugged it, checked all the OSD settings etc... In the end, I connected a scart lead to see if it was the player, no problem. Then connected Component(RGB) lead-no problem, finally reconnected HDMI lead and hey presto all was well again !! Still no idea what caused the problem. A tad irritating on a piece of kit this pricey.

Hmm, am also using a Chord cable. Was it like a white noise effect you were getting Geoff?

It was indeed with, at times, an effect like a vertical shower of rain drops and at other times moving diagionally. It was as if there were two copies of the picture on the screen at the same time with interference over both of them !!

This morning I turned off the DVI output using the on screen menu and then turned it back on. This seemed to cure the problem - I switched to HDMI on the plasma and it worked fine.
However, when I ejected the disc the plasma lost the signal and I've not been able to get it back at all using the DVI output.
Sounds like a faulty DVD5?

The white noise I get is completely devoid of any picture at all - absolutely none.

Ok, I've now replicated the problem.
1) Put DVD in the player and play
2) Turn to SCART output on the plasma
3) Turn the DVI output off
4) Exit the menu
5) Turn the DVI output back on
6) Turn to the HDMI input on the plasma
To do this with each DVD disc is going to send me absolutely bonkers. As I'm seeing this issue with the projector as well as the plasma I can only conclude the DVD5 is the issue?
Time for a phone call to Naim?

How long is your HDMI cable?
Don't forget the DVD5 has a DVI output (not HDMI), It can't drive long cable.

Thanks Manu - The cable is 2m long.
I'm talking to Naim about the issue which is known to them.
There may be an issue with the high def output board?

2 meters is OK and should not create this problem.
