hi all,
would like your input on the following upgrade path.
currently have
cdx
82
180
pmcob1
having recently sold my hi-cap and now about to sell my 180 ( 4 a ridiculously low price see pink fish )
i will buy a new 250 to replace the 180 . the next step isnt so easy. i thought about a new cap but then i want to eventually get a 252. so i am thinking of a supercap instead which will enable the 252. then later maybe pick up a 2nd hand xps for the cdx which i love. my point is will i be able to power the 82 with supercap + 250?? for the time being.!! it will mean mixing new style with olive gear. can you see any problems?? has anyone taken this route ??

before you do anything else you MUST buy an XPS for your CD player.
The XPS is one of the best up-grades you will ever make.
I feel that adding a 252 to your current sisitem is only going to highlite the defficiencies in your CD player.

You will need the Supercap first before the 250 to power the 82. The 250 cannot power the 82 (unlike the 180).

If you have a good deal on the Supercap lined up then go for it scotty, the Supercap is also a very good upgrade and will be necessary when you add that 250.

In the Preamp manual there is a diagram of how to connect a Supercap. So it is a good first step for your upgrade path. I hear it does wonders for an 82, I have two hicaps and a super is the next step to the 252. The supercap has nothing to do with the 180 so that is fine in your system.

Scotty,
if it was me I would go XPS first followed by Supercap rather than the other way round.
Why don't you find a dealer that will do the comparrison for you and then you can see for yourself which is better.

Just to echo what NB said, a CDX/XPS/252/Super/250 system would be quite fabulous. I have essentially that system now (52 not 252) and it is awesome (though my LP12 does destroy the CDX/XPS...) driving SBLs.
