Full HD projectors in that price range might be hard to find. A relatively cheap projector with impressive 720p quality is the optoma HD65. I bought it for 1000 US dollars last year. Should be selling a bit cheaper now.

Suggest that you discover whether you can see rainbows on DLPs. This will narrow down the range if you are.

Got an Infocus X10 last Christmas and it hasn't put a foot wrong. Very occasionally see a rainbow, maybe a half dozen times so not a problem for me at all.

That's great - I don't see them too often but when I do it's really annoying!

There's a website called projector reviews which is very good. Av forums is a worth looking at too. I have an Optoma HD800x - it was an outrageous clearance bargain at £400. You can spot flaws on the picture if you want, but basically, with a good HD signal it's stunning - and big!
If you don't want to go above 6 feet across a Sanyo Z700 costs about £1000 and was very well reviewed. Very flexible placement too. Some projectors just won't give you the image you want in your room, so you should use the calculator at projector central to check that out.
You might not need me to tell you this, but when reading comments on forums you have to remember there is no projector out there that nobody can find fault with. Any 1080p projector will be better than none by a very large margin. Do some research, buy one and enjoy it.

I bought the Infocus IN78 a couple of years back which is now below the £1000 mark - I use it to watch blu ray movies; DVDs, and digital TV and the picture is inevitably superb. Range of inputs including HDMI, which I use. HD Ready rather than Full HD.
Add another £300 and you can get the big brother IN80 which is Full HD.
The projector has been a great investment. I get to watch great films on a massive screen with my 202 and 200 firing the sounds through my Harbeths + it's a never fail settle the kids technique - they love watching Spongbob; Spirited Away; Tom & Jerry etc etc on "the big tele".
