We should have a Saint Parry at every hospital deciding who gets treatment an who doesn't.

The trouble, dear Big H, is that Mick has a point. One thing to get ill and require treatment on the NHS, but to get in the line of sickess by stupidity such as out of control intoxication, and expect that the NHS system, funded by the majority of responsible people, should pick up the pieces is altogether another.

In Norway one is charged if one makes a journey such as a ski-journey or hike, insufficiently clothed and provisioned, and as a result require to be rescued.

I see absolutely no reason why being treated in A&E for alchohol related problems should not be invoiced after the event. The chance of a quick recovery of the cost is small, but then so, the chance of a quick repayment of fines in the Law Courts, is also often rather small.

Perhaps a minimum charge of £5 per week could be instituted in such cases. Of course the question of a charge should be a JP/Court decision, with appropriate additional costs added if the person does not accept the initial invoice charge.
