Captain Fantastic & The dirt brown Cowboy

I was watching the old queen on the TV this weekend as he is 60 - looks good on it though.
I have been a huge fan of most of his early work - up until the time of Single Man went a little off the rails, but last couple of Albums have been getting back to his best
This to me his one if not his greatest work - yes Good Bye etc is a master piece and Honky Chateau is lylically stunning, but for me this has to be his best peace of work, I would also high recommend the re mastered version - sounds superb!
If not the above - your favorite Ablum?

I adored Elton from from 13 years upwards. My favourite was always Captain Fantastic. I also adored madman, and most of his early stuff. I can't get much enthusiasm up for it these days tho. guess i moved on to other stuff and left Elton behind.
Saw him twice in late 70's with Ray cooper and he was stunning. Will always have a soft spot for elton. I guess he was one of the first rock/pop stars to admit he was gay which was very brave and doesn't seem to have harmed his career one bit.

Probably GYBR, but 'Don't Shoot...' was always a strong favourite...

I think he lost his way when he changed his name from Reginald Kenneth Dwight - quite liked Empty Sky.

Tumbleweed Connection still gets rotated on the original black stuff from the mid '70's.
Blue Moves was the last album I bought, and gave away somewhere along the line.

Thought you might have got away with
Friends?

Haven't really listened to Friends or seen the Gilbert, Harris, Russell movie.
Lady Samantha is, IMHO, the pinnacle for Reg.

Back in the day, you bought an album, it was a big deal. 5.99 in 1975. You listened to the record and learned every note and every word of every song. Even if it was crap.
Back in 75', as a kid, I bought this album. I played it. I loved it... and yes....it was crap.
P.S. Didn't know about Elton's .. uhmm.. sexuality back then, nothing he did made me suspect he was gay. I think I read something in TIME about his being bisexual and couldn't have cared fuckall...neither did anyone else, funny how times change...

I love this album and was playing it just the other day. I've only ever owned this, Yellow Brick Road and Don't Shoot Me. Captain Fantastic has to be the favourite.
Elton John was the first concert I ever went to, with Ray Cooper at Brighton Dome in about 1978. I was more into the Stranglers and the Clash at the time, but Elton was fantastic. Ray Cooper emerged from a dome thingy at half time surrounded by mounds of percussion. Brilliant!
