track order uniti
Posted by: chride on 16 November 2009
The track order of Albums on my Naim Uniti is listed alphabetically and does not show the original track order. Using plugplayer on iphone shows the right order based on track numbers.
My folders look like e.g.:
..CD/Chris Rea/Wired to.../01 Winning...flac
..CD/Chris Rea/Wired to.../02 A Good....flac
Upnp Twonky Media 4.4.17 on QNAP 119
Twonky Media music tree standard:
1 Folder 2 Artist 3 Album
If ID tags are present correct Track number is shown in the ID tag, Uniti still sorts alphabetically using the letters of the song title, not the numbers.
Any ideas how to change this?

Hi Chride
Try taking "Folder" out of the Type Level definitions on the Music Node and just sorting by Artist (or AlbumArtist) and Title.

Please correct if wrong, but I think you may find it is the UpNP server software that is presenting the media that way, not the Uniti client...
We have used a couple of different UpNP servers and each time the sorting results at the uniti are different, WMP seems the most confussing and XBMC was the most logical to me..

If the server is presenting it this way, why is plugplayer then showing it in the right order?

Hi Chride,
The Uniti displays each UPnP menu using the 'title' field that the UPnP server delivers in the packet of data supplied for each track. It does no extra processing to this to try iron out undesirable server behavour, as typically this is a losing battle.
What you are experiencing is that the UPnP server is reading the metadata embedded inside the files and is then sorting the tracks using this before sending them to Uniti. The general rule of most UPnP servers is that they will extract the metadata from inside the audio files and if there isn't any (or can't for that file format), then falls back to filenames.
This is a long running issue with Twonky and it seems that they deliver the track listing differently, depending on what UPnP client it detects and the version of Twonky that is running.
The link below on the Twonky forum fairly well sums it up and gives some good advice on how to work around it.

I hope that helps.

Hi (Again),
One thing I forgot to say was that if you don't have the ability to change any settings on the Twonky server install built into your NAS and QNap do not have any fix for it then there is another way...
Use a ID3 tag editor and add the track name in the title of the tracks. For example change:
Winning
to...
01 Winning
Use an editor something like:
http://www.softpointer.com/AudioShell.htm
If you are ripping to FLAC you can probably configure this inside the app you use to rip.

Steve

Strange you are still having a problem. I am using Twonky 4.4.17 on a QNAP 219P with a Uniti and there is no problem with the track order when I set Level 1 type to Artist and Level 2 type to Album.
I did have a "Music Node" set to Folder which caused the issue you are describing which I've now got rid of.
Sorry if this is stating the obvious, but don't forget you have to click the "Restart server" on the Twonky configuration page.
