dBpoweramp Conversion - Keeping File Stucture
Posted by: HuwJ on 20 June 2010
Hi,
More questions.
I'm trying to convert my FLAC to Apple Lossless or AIFF to move them from my PC to the Mac.
I can convert but only in to a single folder. I've called it Converted Music. At the moment, anything I batch converted would end up in that single folder.
Is it possible to keep the folder tree? For instance:
Converted Music/Artist Name/Album Name/Track Name & Artwork?
Is it necessary to do this? My intention is to put it on my newly converted FAT32 USB drive and then import using iTunes and hopefully have the same structure as iTunes has currently set up.
I have downloaded Songbird on to the Mac but have not used it yet. Is it easier to import from the USB HDD using Songbird (my FLACs are on the Drive). What I don't want is one of these programs messing with/up the file structure I have for my FLACs (though I could re back them up if that happens).
Thanks in advance,
Huw

If you store the files in some album structure it is always easier to maintain than all in a big bucket.
dBPoweramp can store everything in structured folder setup. Just in any way you could want it.
If you use dBPoweramp Batch Converter, you can after you have selected all the files you want to convert, and pressed convert select if you want the newly converted files stored in:
1. original folder: speaks for itself
2.a. folder: new folder and all in one single folder
2.b. dynamic: new folder and within that folder structured according to whatever tag-types you like. You define the folder structure by using the button "Set" behind the op Dynamic entry field.

Hi Aleg,
I have the choices for:
- Original Folder
- Folder
but not Dynamic.
I also do not have:
- Bit Depth
- Channels
- Sample Rate
I'm using the trial version at the moment. Could this be why?
I did consider buying it but I could not work out how to do so from within the program, which to be honest, does not seem 'user friendly' to the new user.

The dynamic option is indeed only available in the reference version.
Purchase can only be done from the website.
After the author accepts you will be send a link to a registered full version.
I think it is very user friendly, but maybe needs to get used to. On the website and forum there is a lot of How-To information available.

Hi Aleg,
Thanks for your advice. It's appreciated. I bought the program and indeed you can use dynamic - which makes things a lot easier.
I'm giving it a shot as I write so hopefully it will all work.

You could just convert to a single folder and (assuming dbPowerAmp supports metadata in AIFF files) drag the contents of that folde to iTunes and let iTunes consolidate it into it's own directory structure.
Alternatively transfer the FLAC files to MacOS X and use XLD to transcode them to AIFF and import straight to iTunes.

HuwJ - I found the dBPoweramp forum very useful for advice in doing something very similar to you.
I wanted to convert all my WAVs to FLAC, while saving the folder structure, and adding artwork into the ID tag. Once you've sussed the syntax, it works well

I've managed to convert as required now guys.
Thanks all for your help.
