Very few of you have yet to hear the CDS3 but when you do, there is no turning back.

Mick's right and it's an amazing player. Personally I can't justify the cost, really.
However, very few have heard the NBLs either. My brief exposure to them tells me they're a far more interesting speaker than the SBL or SL2, approaching the DBL; sad that not more is written about them. As you already have the NBLs, I'd certainly go for the CDS3.

The NBL is on my speaker shortlist, I intend to do a home dem and will write about it

Hello,
my advise, go for the CDS3 or buy more records/Cds.
Why: You already have a good Naim Loudspeaker, if you want to go for something better, look outside of Naim too.
To my taste the DBL (I sold mine after having them for some time) are not the ultimate and definitely don`t justify the price.
I have now the "cheap" Audio Physic Avanti III. And they outperform the DBLs in nearly every sense - only basses are a little bit better with DBL - Buying the Subwoofer Minos from Audio Physic will better the DBL again.
Still my advise if you go for loudspeakers: Listen to them.
Good luck making the right decision

Hi Jeremy
This all rather depends on whether you are happy with the sound of the NBL's?
DBL's sound very different and rather more 'balanced' in my view (if your room can deal with them sonically and aesthetically)
So; personally my vote would be for DBL's (and I have a CDS3).
Bear in mind that Naim are rumoured to be working on a replacement model for the DBL.
What's with all the k's (magickal) - you been reading brochures from The Scottish Company?

Hi jeremy,
If 80% of your music is rock/pop/jazz, go for the DBLs. Somehow I feel something lacking with the DBLs when playing classical music...

Hey everyone,
Thanks very much for all the advice!
"Magick" is the correct spelling, not "magic" apparently. I'm sure any of you with teenage wiccas at home will relate.
I'm afraid I am one of those people who completely digs Naim speakers and think they are the culmination of Naim's audio artistry and engineering. A slight regret I didn't go the whole hog the last time round (allaes-> NBLs) that's all. Sadly I have never actually heard a pair of DBLs but did see a pair in a corridor at Naim and I happen to think they look fantastic!
DBL replacements sound very interesting, thanks, I'll investigate.
What is remarkable about the NBLs is their scale, the exquisite way you feel and hear the music without them being the obvious source of it and beautiful - does it make sense if I say sincere? - bass, so I'm intrigued to hear that DBLs take those abilities even further.
Yes, source first, but I believe I already have the best possible TT.
Thanks again,
Jeremy

Mike,
Thanks for the correction!
TT is now pre-circus LP12+bolt mod/ARO-drilled for correct overhang+heavy weight/Geddon/Prefix2/Koetsu Onyx.
