If you get a CD5 and then a Flatcap 2, you will have the following options (given that the Flatcap 2 is designed to power two pieces of Naim equipment simultaneously) :-

1) Use output A of the Flatcap 2 for the CD5, and output B for the preamp stage of your Nait.

2) Use output A for the preamp stage of the Nait, and output B for the CD5 (Naim's own recommended option, IIRC)

3) Use output A only into the CD5. This is MY recomended option following blind auditions at my dealer's early last year.

Given that option 3) is my own recommendation, it is worth spending the extra on a Hi-cap, as this takes the CD5's performance even closer to that of the CDX. Moreover, there are probably quite a few Hi-caps going second-hand.

Steve.

Hi Nuno,

I'm with Steven's third option here. You're thinking of getting a CD5, aren't you? Well, do that first, and meanwhile keep an eye peeled for a second-hand Hi-Cap (around 750 euros on the continent) for the CD5.

What are you doing up at this hour on a Saturday morning?

I've already got my excuses. wink

Steve.

Hi Steven,

it's simple: it's my option as well. It's what I've done. I have a rather infantile soft spot for Hi-Caps anyhow, those half-width cuties.

Why I was up and about? Sleep gets boring. So most nights I take a halfway break to read the NYTimes and do some stuff. (It is one hour later here, though.)

There was a suggestion in another forum (can't remember which one) some months ago that Naim have plans to make Hi Cap available in "new look" series 5 casework. Is there any truth in this? I have CD5/112/150 and PS is next planned purchase.
