Was it just me or was part 2 just trying too hard to be too, too clever?

It's one program I have to get my kids to explain to me Big Grin Well beyond me. My wife is standing over me to tell me Dr. Who was weird last night. I never really got past the Daleks.

I thought they left what happened to the Master rather ambiguous and how come Tennants jump from several thousand feet didn't see him off?

'cos he's "The bloody Doctor".

With a single bound our hero was free....etc etc.

I enjoyed it and miss David already. I've been there since day 1 so it's in my blood to watch.

I thought to myself, "serves you right for watching tanked-up", then remembered I was horribly sober.

The acting and production were fine, but the story just rambled. No direction whatsoever. A huge disappointment especially given all the hype (did it really warrant an item on BBC News at ten? I think not.) The first two series were gripping but since then, I believe, it has completely lost its way.

Am I alone in this perception? Marco P

With lines such as
quote:
..The scar of degradations, the horde of travesties, the nightmare child, the could have been king with his armies of meanwhiles and neverwheres...

What is not to like?

Marco you are right. The direction and story telling was woeful. Anyway, with Davies passing the baton onto another writer and with a new doctor it may be worth giving the new series a go.

Hi

I am not a real Dr Who fan but have watched it often with the family.

I agree with the comments so far made.

Personally I thought Christoper Eccelstone was much better and thought David Tennant was a skinny, physically unconvincing actor playing a "mad hat" role.

There is so much media worship of Tennant and Russel T Davis but I have found most episodes promise much more than is actually delivered and are too often resort to BBC budget second rate effects and unconvincing schmaltz.

How often do you see an episode that becomes tedious within 20 minutes but you stay watching in the hope of it gets better, then make a cup of tea at the end realising it has robbed you of an hour of your life yet again.

The episode with the Statue's that moved when you blink was the best and was genuinely spooky.

Maybe as said a new writer and actor will improve things.

You should see tennant on the stage in a theatre, then you would have a different view of him

Tennant was much better, Ecclestone (Christopher and Bernie) always looks like a thug to me.

That episode was called 'Blink' and many people share your appreciation of it, even non Dr Who likers. It was written by Steven Moffat (he also wrote the excellent library/forest plots) who's chief writer for next series, so could be good news...

Well I enjoyed it! And IMO David Tennant is the best of the Doctors so far.

I just watched it on iPlayer and thought it was just fantastic....David Tennant was just brilliant, wonderfully over the top and clearly a Time Lord yet somehow "human".

Judging by the mixed reception in here it's each to their own though and no harm in that.

Happy 2986!

Cheers

Thought the music was needlessly messianic at times and the last quarter of an hour dragged on a bit; nonetheless enjoyed the episode.

Best Tennant episode for me was the one in New New York with the traffic jam. Thought he made a good Doctor, better than Sylvester McCoy.

Hope the new Doc measures up.

Yes, Blink was a cracker. Interestingly, I seem to remember that the Doctor was hardly in it.

Weren't so deadly when all you had to do to stop them was throw some gravel on the path.
Still they fixed that later on and gave them hover jets, the same solution was used for R2D2 in Star Wars.
