Unlucky Coincidence update...

Got the Panasonic plasma back with a new screen/digital board (apparently) - see previous thread. It works fine on all other settings but when I connected the DVD5 up (carefully, with power off), same thing - just a screen of white/pink noise via DVI to HDMI (both input sockets). Audio via AV2 fine. Via scart, audio OK, but no picture (just Naim logo). Sky HD fine through both HDMI inputs. So, prior to sending the DVD5 back tried connecting it to a Sony Bravia LCD in a different room: no problem. Picture via the same DVI - HDMI cable was fine (although no difference on Scart).

So, not sure what's wrong:

-Scart: probably just a settings issue (though I've tried all the Scart settings in the video set-up menu and none seem to solve it)
-DVI-HDMI: don't know - some settings issue on the Pansonic plasma? (Although can't find any info. on it). Some incompatibility of the Panasonic with the cable or the DVD5's output?

Any ideas, or I guess it's back to the Panasonic warranty engineers!

SCART:
when you get a logo, that means the player is either showing screen saver or in stop mode.
-If you press the setup button, does the setup menu appear on screen?
-is the interlaced output switched on in the setup menu? (video options->video outputs off)

DVI/HDMI:
possibly handshaking issue between DVD5 and Panasonic. (ring naim on Tuesday next week)
-What length DVi/HDMI cable?
-what make/model cable?

Dear AV; Thanks for looking on a Bank Holiday Weekend! (I sent you an e-m at info@naim too). Thanks for the suggestions:

SCART: sorted and working OK, after setting the interlaced output to "on" (not too clear in the manual - Phase 3 didn't fathom it either).

DVI/HDMI: still nothing. (Assume you have to set the video option back to "DVI on" for this?)

It's a 1M HDMI to DVI cable (not an HDMI-HDMI plus HDMI/DVI adapter). It's a QED Qunex cable (cost around £45, IIRC).

On reconnecting today, occasionally the DVD output will flash onto the plasma screen, but then revert to the screen of "pink" noise. As I selected "play" or "setup" on the DVD5 and switched between the TV inputs I variously saw momentarily the Naim logo, the setup screen and the DVD's menu, but in all cases after a second or less, the "pink" noise followed.

Will try to call Tuesday (and I believe Phase 3 will do so too!)

Cheers,

Neil

Munch,

I don't think so, or the DVD 5 would not have worked with the other TV (the Bravia LCD).

Just checked the specs on hificables.co.uk and it says this cable is non-directional, so it wouldseem that'snot the issue.

Finally fixed. It seems that via DVI/HDMI the DVD5 and th TV need to check oput that each other's Copy Protection software is OK, and the DVD5 tries to do it too fast for some TV's. Got a CD with a software update to address this from Naim, via the dealer, with some written instructions after about a week. Installed the update the other day via the SCART connection and re-set the video settings for DVI and it works fine now.

Worth being aware that there are such issues with some TV's and to disconnect and contact Naim straight away if you experience them, since it appears prolonged connection while they're not communicating properly can bugger the TV!
