What's next

At this moment I am the proud owner of a Nait5, CD5 and FlatcapII. What would be the next upgrade:
1. Second hand Hicap to power the CD5 with the Flatcap on the Nait or the other way around;
2. NAP150 to biamp with the Nait;
3. NAC112 and NAP150 and trade in the Nait5?

Can you also give me an indication of what I can expect?

How long do you have this system with you? and if you like it so much then why upgrade? If you like to upgrade (as some people do) you would have to trade in your integrated amp and have the pre/power amp combo.

Exactly one year ago I had a complete NAD setup (C320, C541, C440). The CD5 is brand new. I picked it up at my local dealer last friday. The Nait is 8 months old and the FC2 about 4 months. The Nait gave me a fist idea of the Naim sound. The CD5 made the sound complete (probably the biggest upgrade), but after each step I wanted more.

In januari I have the cash to buy a NAC112 and NAP150. But I'm not sure this would be the most efficient upgrade.

It is ok and normal to be happy with a system and still want to upgrade it!

A 112/150 would be an obvious dem. A highcap on the 112 with the flatcap2 left for the cd5 would combine to make serious improvements.

Phew! I thought it was just me.

Instead of changing the downstream components, your best bet may very well be upgrading your source - a Rega P2 - P3 - Linn LP12, a CDX, or a used CDS1 would be the way I would go.

YMMV, but source first usually works.

Can you not get the Nait 5 converted into a 112 similar to the idea of converting a Nait 3(R) to a 92(R)

I could be wrong but this does strike me as a strange idea if you can no longer do it. If you ca, then I would have thought that that would be the best way to head.

Den,

These people who review professionally must get great deals on their equipment smile Perhaps if they realise that the difference in price of CD5/CDX for you is EURO 2000. I hesitate to say this, but have you listened to any other speakers? However good your home build may be they may not suit Naim as well as some others.
I did the Nait5 112/150 immediate upgrade and I am not convinced that the expenditure was totally justified, the Nait works very well and punches above its weight/price.Schilling for florin I thought putting my series 5 on Hutter was probably a better investment.

As always it depends on how much you are prepared to spend and how long you want to go on upgrading.You can be sure that if you get a CDX you will want an XPS (EURO 3.450) and a 102/180 is so much better than a 112/150. Welcome to the madhouse.

Sidney,

Before I bought the CD5 I had the opportunity to buy a one year old second hand CDX for a lot of money (F6200,-). Just before my holliday I decided I had to buy this player (after 2 weeks doubting). But...after my holliday my perspective had changed. A CDX wordt probably lead to a new pre and a new power-amp and that couldn't be a 112/150 combo. So at the end I decided to go for the CD5 instead and be happy. Now... not even one week later.....I am thinking about an upgrade.

I have compared my speakers with a lot of different speakers, like Naim and Linn. Ofcourse it's not difficult to find better one's but then I have to pay for it. I've built my speakers completely myself for about F4500,-. Better speakers like from Naim will cost me a fortune. Intro's or even SBL's won't do the trick.
