More Dedicated Spur Questions...

Posted by: Tim Danaher on 20 July 2002

First off, thanks to everyone who replied to my last post...it was all very helpful.

Second, apologies if this post appears twice...browser problems...

A few things to clear up:

Sockets: unswitched doubles, surface-mount MK or Crabtree, but does having plastic or steel socket boxes and facias make a difference?

My electrician advised putting an RCD (surge protector/trip switch) on the new consumer unit/spur. Is this advisable?

Finally, what is the relation of the new CU to the old? are they connected, or does the new CU connect directly to the main feed to the house? If so, wouldn't it need a separate meter?

I realise these questions must be exasperating to anyone with even a modicum of electrical knowledge, but, believe me, I wouldn't trust myself to wire a plug properly....

Thanks in Advance,

Tim
