PINK FLOYD "ECHOES" on vinyl

Posted by: samo7 on 26 February 2002

Finally received it Saturday past and have not made up my mind yet. Some songs done well, others...so-so...a good job on selection of tracks, though...

Finally received mine as well, but...haven't listened to it at all yet! (I'm in the middle of jiggering about with my turntable). Have heard the CD though. Have you? How does the vinyl compare? Does it really matter when it looks so good? (Oooo contraversial!).

By the way trivia fans / anorak wearers, What is the only bit in Echoes (the full shebang, not just the track)never before released?

I could be 'Stallionesque' in my attempts to spin this one out. But I won't. Perhaps just a bit...

Can I ask,

Why did you buy the Echoes?

A compilation of Pink Floyd just doesn't work.

I would have thought that this compilation was aimed at the person who has basically never heard Pink Floyd, so they get a taste from many albums.

It's not cheap so you could have bought there more well known ones for the same price.

I would have thought anyone who has quality hifi like Naim must have at least two of there albums.

Just a thought.

Puh! I just made it, I have "Atom heart mother" and, of course, "Dark side of the moon". And "A collection of great dance songs", but that's a compilation.
A month ago I even listened to them!

I have all of the albums - some more than once - and 8 'different' (ie not really different at all) copies of DSOTM. But then I'm sad that way!

Echoes IS just a compilation, but it is interesting to hear familiar songs in a different order, and the way in which they have been segued. It kinda confounds expectations and I'm into that!

Then of course there is the all new piece of music(?) which Echoes contains...But no one is interested. And I don't blame you....

Hi Tim,

Out of the DSOTM pressings, do you have the MFSL version?

There has been a large debate going on in other forums and the consensus by an "expert" (not just me) was that the mfsl was the best DSOTM and probably the best MFSL they did. The thing with MFSL's is they come into their own when played loud.

I received my sealed copy last week and it really is superb. It's so refined and yet powerful. The only problem was it cost about £150 with post/customs. OUCHHHH! Ahh well, it's only money.

The centenary EMI 100 version was pretty good, but maybe a little harsh and edgey. Good detail though.

Hi Count. It's good to hear from a fellow traveller. To ne honest, I don't rate the MFSL version that highly. I think I have a bit of a problem with what they do to the original recording. Although I have to say that the vinyl MFSL is FAR better than the MFSL CD edition. Having said that, I'd love to hear the Super High Frequency version of the MFSL (or whatever it's called). I've never found a copy and they are EXTREMELY expensive! Which version do you have?

I'm a big fan of the original Harvest pressing, but again, finding a mint copy is almost impossible these days!

I'm extremely envious of your EMI 100 copy. If you want to sell it please let me know. I'll pay you top dollar!

If pressed, I think I would go for the Quadrophonic version (through 'normal' two channel stereo) for sheer enjoyment.

John Carter (no anorak...)

Actually...it isn't. When The Tigers has previously been released - on a UK 7" single. The actual answer is far more obscure (and almost unbearably irritating!!)
