Help with Isobariks
Posted by: Laurie Saunders on 11 February 2002
I have an ageing pair of Isobariks and the foam covers are crumbling away. I replaced the top covers about 5 years ago; the front covers now need relacement; they are also sagging under their own weight and keep falling off. Any ideas or help welcomed

I had the same problem with the Isobarik's covers and someone kindly steered me towards a firm called http://www.falcon-acoustics.co.uk/pl28p8.htm
they were able to supply me with sheets of acoustically transparent foam (3 sheets is enough to re-cover the front and tops and cost me £19 including postage). I am very happy with the results and the speakers now IMHO look very smart.
Good Luck
Jim

Just thinking out loud, but given all the interest in Isobariks on this forum, you'd think someone would have set up a nice little sideline in spares and repair for the beasts -- especially replacement foam grille sets.
Monkfish -- how about a photo of your restored ones?
Cheers,
Tim

I too, in the latter part of last year needed a new set of grilles for my ageing bariks. first call to Linn for a price and was told £200!!!!
....for four pieces of sponge!
I dont consider myself a pennypincher but seriously!
A woodworking friend of mine duly made grillframes from 10mm MDF and i purchased a roll of proper fabric from a wholesaler. Total cost £20 and a bottle of whiskey. Problem solved, and they look much better than the sponge fronts ever did!!!!

First, I need to use a different web browser...
Second, I'd have to disagree, Dave. The sculpted foam grilles are, IMHO, integral to the isobariks' gloriuosly loopy aesthetics -- a true modern design classic.
Still, it's nice to know that Linn still make replacement grilles for them -- even at that price !!
Cheers,
Tim

Tim,
