This is the dawning of the age of an ADS!

Yes folks it's finally arrived and in my system.
The system took a few hours to get set up correctly and what and incredible job Phil did in achieving deeply musical sounds from it. Methinks the Dr at Leicester now has a digital equivalent rival for our praises and all from the same small corner of the East Midlands!
Suffice to say I have already managed to rip cd's, download hi-res from both Linn and Naim sites and play some existing hi-res stuff.
My cup certainly runneth over at the moment!
The sound last night of Rumours in 24bit Hi-res was incredible. I will be comparing it to my LP12 delivery of it later today.
I will try to avoid too many self indulgent "new toy" postings and will add something a bit more descriptive etc etc later.
A happy Rooster

Please don't! Otherwise you will get ADS back to dealer
Now seriously: do you have the same album on LP and Hi-Res?

Yes I do and I am just trying it now. Don't think the ADS is going back!
I bought the ADS to be complementary to my LP12 and replace my CDS3.

I really must add that as content Naimee for 25 years, none of my other kit is going anywhere either. My beloved LP12 has a pristine 20 year old ARO on it as well.
The ADS through my 252/CB250 sounds stunning through my Allaes. They really are very very good, particularly with this new ADS front end.

RR: How do you get hold of Rumours 24 bit? Is it available for download? The DVD-A seems to be largely unavilable. Would love it.

I've had a Klimax DS running in my system since this afternoon. Wow, the Linn products are good.
We did some experimentation with mains options. Plugging the KDS into a regular main 4-way block sounds loads better than into the Isotek unfiltered block that all the Naim boxes are plugged into. The Isotek uses a Powerline to plug into the wall. There's clearly an advantage in keeping the switch mode power supply in the KDS away from the Naim amps.
Loving the experience

Not yet. nDAC sitting on dinning room table to make room in rack. CD555, nDAC and 2x555PS seriously under threat from a single box.
Got the KDS on home demo.

Not surprised. I've found similar.

I've been saying that since the first time I heard Ivor demo the KDS when he came over to the States about 2 years ago. An AMAZING single box (and that was pre Dynamik PS upgrade).
Is it my impression or does it seem that many forum members are migrating over to the DS boxes?
Gregg
PS - competition is good!

Though not quite in the same league, I will be putting a sneaky ds up against a unitiserve digitally into a snait in the next few weeks...should be interesting.

My uncle bought a B&O. Same number of boxes as an ADS but much prettier.

I think your impression is correct. Quoting from bowers-wilkins the-definitive-guide-to-24-bit- flac:
quote:
Compact Disc became a technological time trap for audiophiles. Its almost-good-enough digital specification put the development of digital in suspended animation, locking us in to an outdated nineteen eighties way of digitising music. No surprise then that in recent years, many hi-fi purists have been turning back to vinyl which – being analogue – offers almost infinite levels of resolution.
And additionally to the fixed format there are probably many disadvantages in having a highly sensitive DAC near a spinning, vibrating, noisy disc transport, from which you have to read correct data in real time. Linn apparently were the first and still one of a few to recognize that.

I dont think Naim is missing the mark that much. This market is divided and hard to address. You have everything from computer nerds to people who just want a complete and musical solution. Naim is trying to serve a wider spectra of customers. Linn play one-note chords which are simple to explain and sell.
If you want low box-count then nothing beats the HDX. Lower than Linn - no computers or servers needed. Remember that the only large catalog of music in lossless format available are buying CD:s. I've been using the original HDX with XPS2 and preferred it to the ADS (which I found sterile and a bit boring). Now my HDX is in Salisbury waiting in line to reincarnate dressed up as a HDX-SSD and I am adding a DAC. So I will have three boxes - but the DAC/XPS2 will also serve several other digital sources (something the Linns will not do).
But it sure is nice that Linn found some customers.

His eyesight must be better than his hearing then
I rather suspect that the NDX will give the ADS a serious smack around the chops, but it is interesting that some folk are mooting to migration from Naim equipment to the Linn units when considering this new field of music replay. Especially following Naim's recent releases. Are they (Naim that is) perhaps missing the mark in some way? Or are people just fed up with box counts, i know I am?
