Go on.... what is it??

We all agree that the world is full of hifi gear, some lousy, some great, most mediocre. If you're on this forum chances are you already own Naim stuff. No argument from me that they make terrific electronics and pretty bad speakers but my question is why does this stuff occupy so much of our time/thoughts? Just a bloody stereo after all. NO?? Do Levinson heads bang on at great length about their kit. Not nearly to the same extent I think. So go on... explain the mystical appeal of Naim Audio to a twit in New Zealand

Here's the reply... does Mark Levinson have a forum?

OTOH, Linn has 2 forums which do not receive anything like the amount of postings as here. Maybe because these fora are not as easy to find.

Also, if I am correct, the upgrade path of Levinson gear is more linear, whereas the path with Naim is more diverse... "should I CDS2 or supercap?"

No Andrew, not quite what I meant. Still on about the gear

....just the need to talk to people about topics of common interest. What need did you fulfil by posting such a question? What appeal did that have to you?

Is there not something a bit perverse about Naim?

The kit is resolutely unfashionable in appearance and technology.

It almost makes a selling point of the fact is is known and appreciated by cognescenti rather than 'man in the street'. It also costs rather a lot and has a certain mystique because of cost and complexity.

May be the forum exists because we like to see ourselves as a bit different to the mainstream, slightly smug holders of a truth which is hidden to others!

Mystic enough for you?

Maybe it's just that Naim inspires greater enthusiasm in us.

Or, that Naim user are a more sociable bunch than the norm.

Or maybe we're just weird smile

Is it because Naim owners have dull day jobs?

naim kit is addictively good. period. when music is important in your life and you have a system that does a good job of reproducing it @ home, its hard not to want to share the experience with others. if you have been following this forum of late, you will have noted that this forum has people with views on life as emphatically diverse as you can ever imagine. but love of music and the way naim does it appears to keep us "talking" to each other.

enjoy
