DECT phone recommendations needed.
Posted by: Tony Lockhart on 29 October 2010
Hi all,
Our old BT DECT phones are almost dead, and even with new batteries a year ago they only last a minute or so in use. So, we are after three or four phones in the set, answerphone included, good quality screen, logical menus and buttons, and of course excellent call quality. Price not a problem within reason.
Thanks
Tony

This doesn't seem like a hi-fi corner question - i use Panasonic phones that seem to meet your requirements

I'm also looking to replace our BT something or others, won't hold a charge and the blue on blue is almost unreadable.
Seimens ranges look good (for a price) , thanks Lontano for recommendation.
Perhaps we will check out John Lewis on Saturday.

We bought this 2 and a half years ago. Faultless, works superbly well. High quality calls. Amazon reviews will back me up.
Only issues I have had is wife hiding the handsets
and one handset she dropped in the bath whilst having a yabba (it did not survive the soaking)
Like many things in life, you get what you pay for and this for the money has been superb value.

What's a DECT phone?
We have some dead/dying cordless things that need replacing too.

Hi Tony.
We recently dumped our old BT set of DECT phones for the Siemen's Gigaset, which is a "Which?" Best Buy.
They're really excellent in all respects and I can thoroughly recommend them.

Ditto. Have done the same, via recommendations from Which?, and am very happy.

I have a Panasonic set, as do quite a few family and friends. They seem to have a knack for making electronic products which work.
When I was considering which to buy, when asked for a straight recommendation, the sales guy I spoke with in John Lewis pointed immediately in the direction of Panasonics (have to admit I was hoping he would point at the Siemens units which looked nicer
). The recommendation was, I was assured, based on his experience of returns, including the John Lewis branded phones.
Don't know of anyone who's had a problem with them.

I use Panasonic phones and am very happy with them - my Panny phone was made in Slovakia, whereas every other phone seemed to be made in PRC - don't know if that matters.quote:Don't know of anyone who's had a problem with them.

Try using analogue in or near a computer room. Digital sometimes is better, believe it or not.

We've been using Panasonic for the past few years. They seem to offer all you want but I'd have thought many other brands do as well.

We bought some Panasonic 8524s recently
They are excellent - with good signal strength on all units even though a couple of them are some distance from the base unit which is right at the front of the house.

we bought some motorola ones about 7-8 months ago and they've been really good. from memory we paid about £35 for a twinset from Argos, so bought 2 of them. They feel suprisingly well made and 'neat' for so little money and work perfectly. the handsfree loudspeaker works better than the Panasonic one my wife has on her work phone and the answer machine handling is good - if you get a message, all the phones flash a yellow light and you can listen to it from either the base station or any of the individual phones.
The only link I could find was below. I agree with one of the negative comments, for the full instructions I had to donwload a pdf, but it wasn't hard. No idea what the other negative comment is on about.
cheers Phil

I'd second the Siemens Gigaset; great kit.
I went for the C475IP plus 5 additional handsets. This model means I can choose between PSTN (standard line for evenings and weekends) or IP calls (peak time at internet rates). Gives me the best of both worlds and a doddle to set up.

Steve
