Questions for Neat Mystique Owners

Posted by: mfidelity on 22 January 2004

My three week old Mystiques are breaking in nicely and I'm interested in others experiences in getting the most out of these speakers.

My first question: Is anyone using stands with success? I had mine on marble slabs and the sound was on the bright side. Taking them off the slabs and setting them on the carpet (with spikes) solved that problem. Moving them closer together (6ft) and closer to the rear wall (12") helped further. I'm wondering what stands, if any, fourm members are using with Mystiques.

Second question: Has anyone upgraded or DIY'd a better jumper for the terminals? I was thinking about making a jumper out of NACA5. Think that would be worth the effort?

My system: LP12/Stageline/HC, CD5/FC2, 112/HC, 150

Hello mfidelity,

Mine are a shade under 6 ft apart, and about 18 inches from the rear wall. I haven't got them on any stands.

I replaced the jumpers with NACA5 also, but I used some offcut cable as the main cables were already terminated. The Mystique jumpers were on incredibly tight and the NACA5 was a right pain to bend into shape, but the change was worth the effort. I'm not really into hi-fi terminology, the sound just seemed better.

Welcome to the Neat Army - we're almost at brigade strength now!

Regards,
Steve.

oh yeah...jumpers.

I make up dual Naim bananas wired up in a "F" configuration. Basically, your NACA5 is one continuous cable with "built in" jumper.

Yes, but are there any benefits to be gained. The Neat Jumpers are perfectly made and a nice piece of kit.

I own the Mystiques also, for going on 2 months now. I absoulutely love them with my Nait5/CD5/FC2. I actually have mine 21" from the back wall, slightly toed in but I would rather be able to back them up a bit, I can't in this configuration but when I build my new room it will be different. They are 8' apart which may seem like a lot (hence the toe in) but they fill the space very well. On my carpeted cement floor I like them better with the back spikes off and the front spikes all the way in which tilts them slightly and fleshes out the mids even more.

I tried replacing the jumpers and didn't care for the change. Splitting the NACA5 would be the way I'd go but I like them the way the are now.
