Presumably, that is a Chinese creation and we Brits are just squatting as we couldn't afford what he had planned originally - a shed from Wickes.
I once received a flyer to a sale at Wickes in Catford.

I was there when they were starting the building craze about 17 years ago. Great city, great food especially the snails.

Tian,
I have this foolish idea to visit the expo with the family this summer (I have said it, it is foolish, but we have already done it) and then have 10 days on the beach around.
Can you give me some idea on where to look for the beach part: all inclusive family hotel, clean and peacefull.

Yep it was. I was with my Chinese wife and her brother and wife. Never ate European the whole trip. We had them downstairs in a little restaurant just off the Nanjing Road it was a delicacy of the place.
Black snails and you had to watch that you didn't eat the grit inside however you may call them by something different as I can't remember the Mandarin name for them I only speak some Cantonese.
My brother in law was the middle man between Dunlop tyres and the Chinese factories and was based in Shanghai at the time. He also handled Slazenger and Fila products for the respective companies.
Also can't remember if they were building the TV tower at the time as it was too long ago.
Did all the usual walk alond the Bund, tea in the Peace hotel, Chenghuang Miao etc. Spent a week there.
We didn't go over to Pudong during the visit.
Need to go back sometime.

Yeah, I know what to say, the Chinese snail, we call it "Luo Si" in Mandarin.
You really should come back sometime, its huge difference after 17 years, some good, some not good.
