Bought some new tunes this week which are pretty cool. You can read the reviews on AMG becasue they are pretty accurate
1. Ravi Coltrane - From the round box. This is second solo effort and it is superb, quite mellow but with great musicanship from the rest of tje band
2. Paul Harrison Trio - Nemesis. Stellar Piano trio, on the scottish caber music label, very pacy and nice
3. Fascionma - Jon Hassel. with ry cooder, jacky terrason (remember his killer album reach on blue note!) and ronu majumdar. Check it out, it's on waterlily acoustics and it really is moving
4. Take my Heart - Claire Martin. Usual stuff, if you like her that is.

Dev, If Paul Harrison is on Caber he must be part of this new vibrant Scottish jazz scene we keep hearing about. John Rae's Celtic feet and Brian Kellock, a much trumpeted (if you can say that) pianist are playing the Pizza Express next week and I must try and see them. Kellock sounds good from what I have heard on the radio.
I got the new Greg Osby Symbols of light (A solution) with the excellent Jason Moran on piano. I really like both Osby and Moran but am a little disappointed with this disc. It's a with strings and while they are very well employed it seems to clutter up the music for me. Both Osby and Moran have complicated enough styles and Id prefer a more minimalist setting. Some very good tunes but the whole disc could be a bit shorter (as all CDs could for my money) Not giving up though some great playing on there and will give it a few more spins.
