TV speakers

I'm sure everyone knows this already, but if you have a TV in the same room as your hi-fi (and obviously use the hi-fi for the TV sound), then it is advisable to remove the speakers from the TV. I have known this for well over a decade, but having relatively recently bought a new TV I just had not yet got round to doing it, in fact I had forgotten until someone reminded me on another thread.

With my 21" Sony Nicam TV it was a doddle to remove them - unscrew the case, and then the two surprisingly large speaker enclosures are held in by two screws each and electrically connected with a latching plug per speaker. Very simple and totally reversible. I also moved the docking station for my digital phone to another room (I'm lucky as I have a phone port in every room). So that’s the front room free of all speakers except a pair of Kans, and they are definitely staying.

Worth doing? Yes definitely. Its not earth shattering, nothing like as detrimental as having a guitar amp in the room, but the stereo definitely sounds freer and more fun. The price is right too.

I agree with Tony.

I couldn't do this until I had a pre with remote control. I now have a universal remote programmed so that even when in TV mode, the volume control operates the 112.

It's a cheap mod, not earth-shattering, but worthwhile IMO.

My Sony sounds similar to Tony's, a couple of screws, plugs and all done. Watch out for the tube neck, it's relatively delicate and extremely costly if damaged.

Oh, and as I was reminded recently in my Lingo thread, unplug the TV from the mains first eek
