Blair Pulls 1600 Troops out of Iraq

Blair Pulls 1600 Troops out of Iraq, in a blaze of publicity, showing that the situation is under control, despite our armed forces being overstretched.......and sends 1000, no wait for it, ok 1400 of them, straight off to Afganistan.

Who does he think he is kidding ?

........Like none of us saw that one coming! A friend of mine has just been sent out there again (a place he calls "the arsehole of the world") & just before he went I asked him how much longer he thought the occupation would go on. "Six years, miniumum" was his reply.

Anarchy comes to mind if a decrease in foreign troop numbers were to happen in IRAQ today. What a fiasco, they should have known better not to meddle, now the situation is no better for the inhabitants of Iraq than preinvasion. Just different hardship plus chaos and more .....

What makes it worse is that the failure to win the peace was widely predicted - just not by those advising GWB.

Furthermore is the world safer today after invasion and down throwing?

You can bring a horse to water but you cannot make it.....

If we use the situation in Northern Ireland as a model for troop deployment supporting the peace (albeit a rather different set of circumstances)then I think the "Six years, minimum" rather optimistic.
