Mana Sound Frame
Posted by: Lightkeeper on 27 November 2002
Hi !
Did anyone have some experience with Mana Sound Frame under Naim CDP and is it worth to buy that little platform even if it's with glass on top.
Didn't glass easily getting into resonance?
That was really interesting me?

Wonderful yet humbling news. Did you try the S/Sink on top of the S/Frame by any chance?

Hi all:
Just to open another can-o-worms regarding perceived picture quality with TVs, it appears that the mains quality also has quite an impact on the results.
A search on the PS Audio forum will turn up many posts by people who were very impressed af ter inserting a PowerPlant in front of their video system. TVs/monitors tried range from the humble to the esoteric. Now, I haven't tried this as the hi-fi's in a different room to the TV and anyhow, for the most part I hate watching the box. However, one of you guys or gals with a decent mains system might want to experiment and report back.
Best Regards,
Mark Dunnn

quote:The only point I'm trying to make is that whatever TV or DVD player you might have, you should always try different ways of connecting. I only entered the Loewe case to show that in some cases, the preferred order you specified doesn't apply, which is exactly why you should go for a dem.

However, since DVDs are recorded natively in YPrPb (aka YUV) which is (I think) a higher bandwidth version of S-VHS's Y/C (specifically the C is Pr + Pb) then it would seem that YUV is always better than S-VHS if one has it. Certainly when Loewe say "because the entire technology is designed around this type of signal" they are almost certainly talking about YPrPb which is DVDs native format. I also note that just about all their current TVs have YUV inputs which wouldn't make any sense if S-VHS were better since there isn't a a video device in the world that has YUV but not S-VHS.
At the very least one assumes that getting native YPrPb out of your DVD player is the best option as Loewe will probably be the best people to do whatever conversion is required at the highest standard for their TVs to work at their best.
Matthew
In this case, Loewe's statement about "the entire technology" relates to the technology in certain TV's. And they don't call SVHS superior to RGB, just for some of their products.
Cheers,
Edo

I think you infered the meaning of the word "groove" in its literal vinyl sense.
I meant groove as in PR&T.
Sorbathane sapped the life out of my old CD5, and the Vibrapods were working somewhat against Peter Stockwell's Micromega Stage Six (that's also a CD player and not a turnytable, btw) when I heard it at his place back in March.
I mumbled my comment that the 'Pods should go, and that maybe the phonostage should move up a shelf... under my breath as I was still reeling from Vuk, Duerden & co stating how it was terribly bad form to be in anyway critical of your host's system (even though I hadn't been previously
) when you had been given dinner etc
Given the cooking and general hospitality had been/was still to be excellent, I kinda hoped Peter hadn't heard me.
Next day before I had even woken up, Peter had heard every word... had whipped out the 'Pods, moved the phonostage and PSU up a shelf, and was, iirc, a very happy man indeed a a result.
It sems that only Mana closes minds and arses...

There is always going to be a peceived "nerdy" aspect to this hobby of ours if you keep an open mind. The process can also be as much fun as the end product, and why not?
Regards,
Steve.

To attempt to answer your question (unlike just about everyone else!) - I use Mana under my CD3.5 and it works well.
I don't use a soundframe but instead my CD player is on a reference table, however the results are supposed to be about the same. I've tried the CD player on a Mana board but it was better on the glass.
The Mana rack is IMHO considerably better than my other racks (Target and Stands Unique) however I've made no direct comparison with any others.

Steve

Yes the Mana is better than the other two, buy yourself a favour and but a Townshend, it trashes the Mana bigtime under a CD3.5.
Well worth the effort to get one.

I have heard target and rate it as useless.
The Mana is good but the Townshend will kill it.
Flog the Mana and buy the Townshend, you will not regret it. You have to keep up with times, and Mana as been overtaken.

What did you think about Stands Unique?

My system currently consists of a very early LP12 (it's nearly as old as me), CD3.5, 32.5/SNAPS2/140 (all on Phase 2 Mana) and Triangle Titus XS speakers. I feel no inclination about keeping up with the times at all and I'm quite happy with what I've got.

To be honest, I have neither seen nor heard a Stands Unique.
If your system pleases you then stick with it.

Matthew,
Freedom is not shades of grey. You cannot restrict the freedoms of persons with whom you disagree without restricting your own freedoms also. Maybe tomorrow, your ideas will be deemed unfashionable and disgusting, and you'll find yourself at the mercy of the censors and silencers that you championed today.
In order for a free, moral, and just society to exist and thrive, it is imperative that we act like rational adults and protect the freedoms of all, not just our friends and/or people with whom we agree.

Sorry but I just don't think this planet has ever seen a society to which you could apply the above adjectives to.

So we should just throw in the towel then, and behave like some of the Mana mob do from time to time?
This planet may not have seen an entire society behave in such a noble way, but there have been some good examples here of sharing ideas, mutual respect and tolerance on this forum that we can aspire to now and in the future.

Steve.

Ah so we agree. Although that puppy they rescued on news at ten gave me fresh belief in the inherent goodness of mankind.

There is no inherent goodness in mankind, but then there isn't any inherent bad either. Thus we should simultaneously promote noble, and discourage ignoble behaviour.
BTW, we now have a stray cat living in our taxi office.

hi Ozren ,The Mana stuff works great You have to take your time and set it up right, and when you think you have it, don't it again, I feel there is lots to get out of any stand if you keep trying. Mana's if you get it wrong there bad get it right and there great, i seem to get mixed results when I put the new CDX 2 on the Mana but that just might be me not getting the tunning of the stand right, even a Naim frame can be tunned and needs to be to get the best from it i've pulled mine apart lots of times to get it right. So try the stand with your CD player and have some fun. I even put a Creek CD53 on a Mana and was blowen away by the improvement

The operative word above was "inherent."
Now run along and think about that, there's a good chap.

I just couldn't be doing with the paranoia of thinking I should maybe spend another hour or two getting it right. Again, and again, and once again after few days/weeks/months if I feel it may have gone out of tune.
I agree that when Mana is set up correctly, it sounds great, but the endless fiddling about?
No thanks!

We all play with our toys and then we stop ,,,,and then we get new toys and we play and then we stop,,,and we get tired and we hop on the Net and look for more stuff to have fun with,,,,,I'm lucky my job lets me play with toys all day long, and while the one system is being played with I have the other to play music with.Life is good. how about having Frames and Mana ,Q s ref racks, and a sh*t load of Naim to play with, You would change you tune

You must be a dealer then. I used to play about with kit in my dealer's dem room for a few hours every Tuesday. I don't visit so often now as I have other things to do, but you are right, it is good fun to play around with kit.
The funny thing is, I hate playing with my hi-fi kit at home; I just want to kick back and enjoy some tunes.

Steve.

I'm lucky the fun never stops, even at home .I always get new stuff sent here to give it a good try to see if it worth buying...sometimes it's home for 2 weeks to see how it works with other gear...because I too like to play music that is why it takes so long sometimes ,(the sales reps don't like it they say I'm hard to deal with )I alway say " If I don't like it why should somebody else buy it...."
don't get me wrong , I don't think I have "Golden Ears" but so many people who sell the gear don't have any idea about the gear or how it works, reacts to other stuff or even how it sounds.....for most sales persons there is no test to get into audio ( not all of them are bad but most of them are )
