Mana Sound Frame
Posted by: Lightkeeper on 27 November 2002
Hi !
Did anyone have some experience with Mana Sound Frame under Naim CDP and is it worth to buy that little platform even if it's with glass on top.
Didn't glass easily getting into resonance?
That was really interesting me?

Not sure if I should be jealous of a man who is content with his lot and not prone to the dread upgradeitus, or slightly sorry for someone who does not want to hear improvements. The LP12 in particular can be improved massively by the addition of a Lingo - especially the mark 2 - Cirkus upgrade, arm, cartridge etc etc. By analogy, not many of us drive around in our first or second cars ( students and other sprogs excepted, of course.)
The problem I find with upgrades is that once I hear them, I tend to want them.....maybe you have the right attitude after all, but I like the thrill of the new

Indeed, but not many of us change cars every week either. My system only got into its current form about 6 months or so ago so (other than getting my Audionote Oto serviced and back in use) I don't really want to make much in the way of changes at present.

I can understand that, but I've so many other things to spend money on! I've just bought a new car, I'm getting an extension added to my house (to house an AV system I've yet to buy), I'm looking for an apartment to buy (to let), I'd like a new mountainbike and I'm planning to replace a couple of my motorbikes as well. With all that on the go I'd rather stay happy with my hi-fi for a while yet...

I wouldn't class the Cirkus as an upgrade.
It downgrades.

not sure if you have an LP12 or not - not given on profile but if you mean that being able to hear more of what is going on then yes, it is a downgrade...
However AFAIC it is a step forwards. I have had one fitted and so can speak from knowledge. If it was a downgrade I would have passed my opinion on to the Forum because it may be of relevance if people are considering one. Bass is better, more defined, less smeared. There are physical reasons why this should be so - to sum up, the spindle is held far more securely than non Cirkus. Less mechanical movement of the spindle means that the platter is describing a truer circle; this leads to the stylus tracking more accurately and so less distortion.
The first time it hit me was when I played New Orders' Blue Monday. I heard near subsonics that simply had not been detailed before.
Flicked my switch.

don't get me wrong , I don't think I have "Golden Ears" but so many people who sell the gear don't have any idea about the gear or how it works, reacts to other stuff or even how it sounds.....for most sales persons there is no test to get into audio ( not all of them are bad but most of them are )
HiFi FoFum is the real Naim guy in Toronto. He is one of the best (and with Robert Fulton). Speaking about Naim boxes, he has all and experiments with them all. HiFi FoFum assessments on HiFi products and especially on Naim Audio are very good.
