hdx and no cd meta data

Posted by: Tomas Hassler on 31 October 2010

Hi all,
Still my hdx does not get meta data the way that it used to.

All the time it used local freedb.
It does not look as I have an internet connection issue.

Any idea what can be wrong. I did write about this some months ago, in https://forums.naimaudio.com/ev...132993337#7132993337

Tomas, why not email Phil Harris at Naim (see FAQ). He is really knowledgeable and has managed to sort out my HDX questions in the past.

Hi Thomas,

The software interrogates the AMG – All Music Guide – database every time it rips a disc. Music databases all seem to favour the Western world’s recordings. None would recognise any special Japanese pressings for example... If an album isn't found in the AMG database, the HDX looks into the FreeDB database which has - unfortunately - no cover art.

Luckily, with the latest software installed you can add cover art manually.

With what type of albums do your problems occur?

Of course, it's best to contact Naim directly, please let us know if the problem is solved!

Regards,
Michel

Is it the Desktop conroller software telling you "Internet = True" or the on screen web interface ?

I have seen an instance where DTC reported internet as true but in fact the on screen menu was false...in this case the server had been incorrectly setup to form part of a NetStreams system and the static assigned IP address was missing DNS settings...I could see it, control it but it had no internet access.

If your HDX has a manualy assigned IP address it really should be DHCP as per the manual...you can download the IP address set tool from Naims website to alter it if you need to (have a look at your system Setup/System Status information to see how your HDX is getting an IP address).

Don't feel like you have to battle this yourself however, the dealer you purchased from should be able to help out, or contact Naim HQ if they can't.

If all of your lookups are being done at "FreeDB Local" then you almost *DEFINITELY* have an internet connection issue on the HDX...

What are the entries in the "System Setup" -> "System Status" page for the following items:

IP Address
Subnet Mask
Gateway
FP Address

How is the HDX connected to your router?

Are there any "Ethernet over mains" or wireless connections in use (maybe using an Airport Express as a wireless bridge for example)?

Cheers

Phil

I had a stupid problem. Updated DNS server.

Now all lookups works fine.
Thx for the help.
Time to listen to 64 "new" albums, with meta data, track names and album art Smile
