Quirky or a turn-off? The NaimUniti ads
Posted by: Bhasi on 05 January 2010
Naim's ads have always been distinctive but the one currently seen in, for example, What HiFi? (and at the URL below) make me feel uncomfortable somehow, interested as I am in the product - almost what the psychologists call cognitive dissonance! What do others here feel?

A sprinter and a darts player?

Is one of them heavily pregnant?

I must admit to liking pictures of pregnant ladies.

Have to agree Bhasi. Quite hideous imo. Perhaps Naim are outsourcing their ads to 'trendy' art school types.
I thought the the teddy bear one was alright.

I got done at the weekend for using the [phrase) "ted--dy b-oys". Gawd knows why.

I would love to see the sub set that the nanny S/W uses, does ted--dy bo-ys have some disgraceful meaning over the pond?
You can use full blown (oh er misses) swear words but not a childrens toy word.
Perhaps ted--dy gi-rls passes?
No it doesn't pass,it must the T word, I always thought the other F word caused the most trouble.

I once wrote the word century but with a missing e and an extra u! OMGoodness!
It was instantly moderated, and I had no idea why!
Adam explained it to me!
I miss that kind of moderation a bit!
Not that I am criticising our new moderator, of course.
I expect that advert needs moderating!
ATB from George

Maybe the T word is an issue because of caps rather than bears.
Anyway, the ad is rubbish.

Agreed - not a great ad.

Julian has explained it to me - it is the T word doing it. Something to do with a company that sells hi-fi bits....

Ah so it's NAIMs nanny S/W then , I thought it was some American speech nuance.
It's a shame there is no context checker as well eh?
It will take a long time to get a thread about German cuddly toys going then!
BTW no problems with the ad for me.

AHA! It's always simple when you know how.
Still a damned ugly ad though.

It makes total sense to me uniti as in togetherness. A man and a woman due a baby, togetherness.
A great add.
I am starting to think some of you gents are leading very secluded lifes. I am worried that George may have been serious when he asked if it was a pregnant lady.
Yes its a pregnant lady, people of a larger persuasion do not carry weight like that. At a guess I would say 8 months.
Dont worry these are all perfectly normal human conditions, heck when you guys lose your virginity you may get a lady pregnant and thats what it might look like.
A great add.

It's the software... certain words automatically trigger moderation review. Before certain members jump on the keyboard to try it out, I'll say here and now, the list of trigger words is not exhaustive...
Garyi. Thank you.
Garyi. Thank you.

Not to be too radical ROTFLMAO

Glad to hear a dissenting view of the ad from garyi! I'd assumed the figure on the right was a pregnant female, too. I do like the message but I think most potential customers would find the visual image - body fascism, mysogyny, etc aside - quite unattractive. Still, if it really arouses (interest) more than it repels it's a good ad!

I like it, great ad. The tattoo is a nice touch as well.

I work in advertising, and our agency has made some rubbish ads in its time, but nothing quite as poor as that - it looks as though it's been knocked up in-house rather than by a "proper" agency.
If Naim are employing an agency and are getting stuff like this from them, I think they should think about repitching the business, or taking it in-house to see if they can do better.
A good product like the Uniti deserves better advertising.
