speakers for CD5/nait 5
Posted by: kevinrt on 10 May 2002
I'm currently using a pair of Linn Keilidhs with my CD5/Nait 5 setup, but I keep reading glowing reports of Kans and Royd speakers. I listened to a pair of Royd minstrels a few years back and was quite impressed with those. I'm wondering if the Kans or Minstrels would be an upgrade or a down grade from the Keilidhs. Has anyone here made a comparison between them?
Also, I can't seem to find a web presence for Royd. Does anyone know where I can view their current production either on the web or local to Oxford.

I'd suggest seeking out a nice second hand pair of SBL's. They sound great off a Nait 5 and there should be a few pairs coming onto the market with the introduction of the SL2.
If you get a pair; pay someone who knows what they're doing, to install and re-seal them properly.

Hi there
I have a pair of Royd RR2 and they sound really good - very musical yet tight. Be sure to have a listen.
Happy listening

Just heard the Ninkas with your setup---very
musical, articulate, engaging sound. Actually
a much better match than the Linn Espek which
sounded boxy and congested even with the Naim
112/150. I know the Ninkas are the successor
to your Keilidhs and you might want something really different, but the Ninkas were really fun
to listen to.

My limited experience of the RR's suggests they are rather a heavy load for (even) a Nait 5.
Nobody on this thread has yet sugested the obvious: Intro II's! Synergy to die for, loadsamusic.

Assuming you're not too houseproud (the Keilidh is a lovely looking speaker), try Linn saras if you can. I have found them to work far better than the Keilidh/Kabers that replaced them. I have not tried them with a Nait 5 however but I'm sure the amp can hack it. Expect to pay £200-300 depending on age, condition and whether stands are included...PS I don't rate Royds very highly-poor quality drive units are only acceptable at the budget end of the market!
