Adventures in Sound - part 1

In the first of two programmes, Jez Nelson presents highlights from the Adventures in Sound day, recorded at the Queen Elizabeth Hall during last month's London Jazz Festival.

Jointly curated by Jazz on 3 and the London Jazz festival, the event features some of the most progressive and inspired performers on the global scene. Hailing from Norway the Scorch Trio are a metal punk jazz outfit fronted by Raoul Bjorkenheim, featuring the heavyweight rhythm section of Ingerbrigt HÃ¥ker Flaten and Paal Nilssen-Love.

The UK is represented by maverick young pianist Matthew Bourne, with his drum and bass influenced collective the Electric Dr M, and British saxophone godfather Evan Parker performing a solo set. Completing the line up, the Matthew Shipp Trio from New York, again featuring two of the biggest names around in the rhythm section William Parker and Tom Rainey, plus cutting it up on the decks and electronics, the pioneering DJ Spooky.

With such an eclectic collection of like-minded musicians gathered for the event Jazz on 3 takes advantage of the unique opportunity for some unique collaborations alongside group and individual performances.

Dev, I bought the Scorch Trio cd last week. Its a great guitar/bass/drums trio record. Scorching being the operative word. Great punk/jazz feel. Blows those Pat Matheney records into the North Sea.Paal Nilssen-Love is the bomb.

You need to bring it over sometime mate...

I'm recording the concert tonight on CDR - starts at 11.30pm - probably coincides with my daughters' 'I want to be fed' screams smile

Only snag is I've only got a 80min CD frown Can you get 90min CDR's?
