HDX 1TB hard drive

Posted by: Klout10 on 08 September 2010

I've just noticed on the Naim website that the HDX now contains a 1TB hard drive instead of the two 400GB drives it used to have.

Assuming it's only a single drive, does the HDX still provides backups?

Does anybody know if it is possible to fit this new drive in older HDX's?

Regards,
Michel

No (I've asked), as there is additional metalwork required to fit the new hard-disk drive isolation hardware.

Better to move to SSD drive instead.

And it still manages backups on a NAS.

Thank you!

I'm happy mine provides backups since I don't have a NAS! Too bad the newer ones don't do so anymore Frown

Sorry Manu - the single drive HDX and UnitiServe *DO NOT* automatically back themselves up to NAS.

The NS0x (NaimNet Servers) do have dual drives andsupport this functionality though if that is important to you.

It's only the HDX and the UnitiServe that don't have a backup drive built in ... the NaimNet servers still have a second drive for self-backup.

Why the change?

Two reasons really - we had lots of feedback from end users who really didn't want to "waste" the second drive as a backup of their discs as they had their discs already that they could re-rip again if a drive went down and so we decided to go to a single drive in the HDX and UnitiServe and use the space saved to implement a more compliant mount for the remaining drive that cuts down the drive noise further.

Phil,

But Desktop Client can manage backup from a Serve to a NAS.

So you mean NDC has to be active for scheduled back-ups to be done. And with dual disks units you do not need a computer to do the backups.

So it is not the unit itself but it is still a Naim software Big Grin
