Two questions, help needed!

Posted by: Massimo Bertola on 11 January 2009

Supposing I am using a Nap175 to drive center and rear, but I have the n-center while the sats will come later, can I leave two outputs out of three in the 175 unloaded, or should I connect to them, say, a couple of 6ohm, 20 watt resistors in parallel?
Second point: having to run some 10 meters of cable from the 175 to the rear speakers, and being the Naca the plyable, friendly wire we know, has someone an alternate, thin, flexible cable to suggest that might go between 175 and sats (speak low so Adam won't hear you!), please?
Thanks and good Sunday to all.

The first question is a yes...should be absolutely fine.

Take a look at the Chord Company for something suitable.

Jay -
thanks, but sorry.. Yes to unloaded or yes to resistors?
Thanks a lot,

I must learn to search in the forum before putting new posts in it..
As I'm doing now.
Thanks Adam.

Massimo, I'm not sure if you are using a better amp than the 150 to drive the fronts, but if not and as an experiment in your current temporary situation, you could also try having the 175 drive the fronts and centre, instead of the conventional role of centre and rears....I've actually read this advised by dealers before, though I'm not entirely sure why....

Hi SC,
I am currently using a Nap200 for front - and, of course, for stereo - so the 175 will have to take rear and center in charge. By what I've learned about the 175, though, I'd have no problem using it for front and a 150 for rear..
I am adding surround to a good stereo setup, but my biggest problem is yet to have couriers deliver my boxes. I am very gladly buying secondhand in the UK, and - I should not encourage this clichèe, but... - problems arise as soon as the parcel enter Italy.
I am re-placing all my boxes now, according to function, lenght of cables, presence of transformers, and must say I'm satisfied with the solutions. As soon as the boxes are all in place, I'll post a picture.
Cheers to all, Max

Sounds good Max Cool. I'll be a few months behind you with a similar set up.

If you have the 200, then obviously keep that at the front...

I'm in two minds as to whether to get the 175, or search for some used 145's, or even 2 x 200...More and more boxes though !

Steve.

Steve,
I can't pronounce on your doubts because I don't know the rest of your system..
A few weeks ago, when I decided to have surround sound again, I considered swapping the CDX2 for DVD5, give the 202 and keep the AV2, then I did the effort of retaining the quality and adding the necessary - yes, more boxes and less money, but it can be arranged. If you consider such amplification for surround you must obviously have a wonderful stereo system to begin with; my only remaining doubt is about rear speakers, because an obvious choice would be n-sats but I am daydreaming about putting IBLs instead, to rear my SBLs..
Choose wisely! I'll post a pic of my final settlement.
Max

Sorry!

You can leave them unloaded. No damage will be caused that I am aware of...
