At the risk of seeming to attack the messenger... it would seem that the number of cameras are not about to be reduced. The proceeds from all the illegal driving activity will simply be redirected to pastures new.

When is the next election? Bliar sinking faster than the Hood in the polls? Giving away the rebate without the French farming lobby matching the new EEC reality? New young leader of the opposition makes Bliar look old and tired. Brown looking like an incompetent Italian banker? It must be time for a symbolic carrot to the motorist lobby! Non?

I fink they said on the news report that no more fixed camera's will be placed until other engineering options have been considered...

But (I repeat) nor are they reducing the hated cameras.

Interestingly the Danes are considering varying speed limits too match local conditions. But they already have lower speed limits. With 50mph still standard on most out-of-town roads.

They're now going to watch for speeding boats?

You can dress it up anyway you wan't to. It's a political ploy to gain public sympathy. They'll most probably put the money into speed devices in cats eyes ( I believe this is already happening in Malasia - and has been mentioned on this forum before). You can bet your mortgage that the money won't be put back into more traffic police. There's no going back from the fact that we need more police patrolling the roads.

Lake speed cops? That's a daft waste of manpower. Nothing a decent marksman couldn't solve in a few minutes. Provided he used a silencer on his rifle. Can't disturb the wildlife if you're keeping the peace.
