Can anyone recommend audiophile ambient chill out music?

Hi I had to ask this brilliant community this question, as I love ambient chill out music in whatever format, but I'd love to ask the collective consciousness for any suggestions.
Many thanks!!

Nitin Sawhney, excellent recording, my favourite has to be Beyond Skin. The latest one 'London underground' seems very good too. Groove Armada have some numbers are extremely mellow, try Vertigo. Grand Love Story by Kid Loco.
Happy Listening.

I would humbly suggest these two fine collections, although in the interest of full disclosure I should note that I contributed a track to each of them. But even if I hadn't I'd recommend them anyway. Enjoy!
All the best,
Fred

Steve Reich Music for 18 musicians:
very hypnotic, mostly marimbas, but I think some percussion too. It sets up a rhythm and phase shifts thru to the end. Rising and falling.
Morton Feldman:
I've been reading about him in the book The Rest is Noise by Ross. I've just ordered a CD of his on the Rothko Chapel with 2 other short pieces. The later works become extremely long minimalist works, I"ve never heard one.
John Adams:
"Light Over Water" can be found in early electronic form with another like it "Shaker Loops" , Later he reworked it for chamber orchestra on Nonesuch. Tho the first piece is his Violin Concerto. NOT the first Adams you should try out, definitely not chill.
Reich also has "Proverb, Nagoya Marimbas, City Life"
Proverb is close to gregorian chant with harmonics that vibrate
Marimbas, nice short piece, then City Life is a mixed piece with sounds of the city in tape loops and instruments. 2nd half cranks up to rave levels.

Whole heartedly agree with this recommendation. Frankly, it's one of the true masterpieces of 20th century music.
Its original instrumentation is: violin, cello, 2 clarinets doubling on bass clarinet, 4 women's voices, 4 pianos, 3 marimbas, 2 xylophones and metallophone (vibraphone with no motor)
All best,
Fred

Hi Markah, yes so did I. I do buy the odd album cos I like the cover and this was originally one of them! Since went on to see Toby Marks live at the Charlotte in Leicester (playing two laptops!) and got a few more bits.

Going on the audiophile quality combined with great chill out music has to be: The Art of Noise: The Ambient Collection. Superb bass and loads of detail. Very very spatial recording.
Other fab recordings of music in the vain of this thread:
Red Snapper (first album)
Dzihan and Kamien "Gran Riserva"
Thievery Corporation "The Richest Man in Babylon"
Tangerine Dream "Underwater Sunlight"
