Please, I need some advice
Posted by: Den on 26 January 2002
I have the opportunity to buy a 1995 NAC82 with a 1995 Hicap for a very good price. My setup consists of a CDX, a Nait5 and a NAP180 so I really need a new preamp. But since the NAC82 and Hicap are both 7 years old I am not sure if it's a good buy. Are there big technical differences between a new NAC82 and this one. And what about cosmatic changes? Do the Hicap need a recap or can I wait with that for a couple of years. Please give me some advice, because the seller is waiting for my decission.
Thanks,
Dennis

Den, assuming the price is right and there is nothing obviously wrong with the kit, buy them. The hicap will be good for at least 3 years.

Patrick,
A black snaic is included. The seller even wants to give the NAC82 a service by Naim. He told me my new remote control of the CDX will probably not work with the old type remote receiver in the NAC82. Naim seems to have changed remote control chips???
Naim can service this.

If its pre RC5, don't bother with it.

My 82 is about 8-9 years old and the remote is virtually identical to my 18 month old CDX, and both operate both pieces of equipment.

Thank you all for the quick replies. I have decided to go for it. The NAC82 will receive a full Naim service first (replacing pots and remote chip). After that it will come to me together with the Hicap. This will be the last upgrade for a long time. I never expected me to upgrade this fast, but I am sure it will be worth every Euro!!
