Can my Mission 753 work with a CD5 and Nait 5?

Posted by: Grunt on 13 July 2001

Hi guys, pls forgive ignorance as am a newbie to the scene. Am seriously considering a combo of CD5 and Nait 5 for the den...however, as the SBL has to wait for a while, I am wondering if my existing Mission 753 will work well with Naim? The 753's are 6 Ohms...if there are any one out there with such combo or have experience or advice, I would deeply appreciate it...

Thanks in advance!

Ken

I have heard them partnered with a 32.5/140 which is similar to your proposed set up and it sounded great.

Rest easy and stop worrying.

Thanks for the advice, if I decide to go with a Credo, would it be better?

Thanks in advance!

A CD5/Nait 5 will be one of the best things you can do for the 753s - and they will probably tell you about it.

In another thread, you mentioned that you are unsure about whether to try a Credo or Intro. Well I know that AbsoluteSounds in Singapore have a series 5 system with one of those loudspeakers, and will be happy to demo both alternatives.

My advice is to keep your current amp and speakers and buy a CDX smile

Sorry but I disagree with the majority here. The 753 has a weird impedance characteristic that meant you needed a powerful amplifier to get anything remotely good out of it.

The 140 Mick was talking about has half again the power - it's nothing like a Nait5. The 32.5 has half the frequency bandwidth of the Nait5, so with the nait5, you'd be spreading 2/3rds the power over a wider frequency range - nah!

You mention going for the Credo instead. That would be much preferable in my view. The Credo is an easier load and a much better speaker all round.

Frank.

What a totally bizarre comment! The 32.5 like all Naim preamps from the12s onward comfortably covers a frequency range of below 20Hz to above 20Khz, i.e. anything that is audible. The preamp will certainly be wider bandwidth than the CD player (hard "brick wall" filter at 20Khz) or speakers (probably a good few DB down at 60Hz). I am not saying that Frank is wrong about loading as I know absolutely nothing about the Missions in question, but he is in this case way out regarding preamps.

Grunt.

My original Naim combo was the 3 series with the 92/90, and a pair of rosewood 753's. It was a great combination, and if you like rock, alternative or hard core tunes, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. To get a bit more bass, plug the cable into the bottem set at the back of each speaker.

The only problem I perceive is if you move to the middle tier Naim equipment. At that point I found the aluminum tweeter, overbearing and even annoying. I bought some credo's and sold the Missions to a friend of mine. He loves them.

I think you will enjoy the combo. Before you go pursuing a new set, give the 753's a whirl. I'd be surprised if you didn't like them. tw
