Should be easy!

Plus the fact that both teams were playing for a draw from day 2 onwards.

Not the first South African to do well for England though, is he?

Basil D'Oliveira, Allan Lamb, Robin Smith - quite an impressive roll-call there, I'd say!

Jon, I'm glad you didn't include Tony Greig.

Oh yeah - I knew there was someone I'd forgotten!

Mind you, he didn't exactly cover himself in glory with his comments prior to the series against the then-mighty West Indies in 1976 Eek

I suppose you're well chuffed he now lives in your part of the world Big Grin

Surely even Duncan Fletcher will see that the current attack is not going to take 20 wkts and win a game without Panesar. I don't know if he has the ability either, but we aren't going to find out if he does not play. With the batsmen looking more solid he just HAS to pick him. Please!

Australia 2-0.

England, how on earth did you manage that? Confused

It's ... because I'm holding my breath...

Oh bloody hell.

Further analyses of where England went wrong seem pointless if at least 250 runs cannot be scored on a flat pitch.

The phrase "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" (or even a draw!) springs, almost inevitably, to mind.

EDIT: Karma! At exactly the same time I mention 'jaws', what does Y-Y M post? Big Grin

I woke up expecting the usual middle order collapse and - oh joy.

Shame Monty didn't get the nod.

Ahhh, I just got the wrong day. Big Grin

Er yes, he was overheard at the post-match celebrations saying "better to be Dad's Army than a bunch of young pussies" or something to that effect.

Oops, I just realised that I got the thread title wrong. What I meant to say was "England set off to Australia to return Ashes tonight"

Figuratively speaking of course, because we all know that no matter how many times they beat us, we actually still get to keep the little urn for ourselves.

I'm sure there's a joke for Eric Morecambe in there somewhere.

Looks like I'm buying you that pint Jon, the fat lady's out of the dressing room and waiting in the wings to come on!

Mark, I sense a smile on your face in your last post - still anaesthetised by the Armageddon, no doubt...

It's not good, is it?
