What are you listening to - thanks Naim

I just wanted to thank Naim for running the WAYLTAWMABI thread. What I learned from it has brought me so much pleasure and it is the best thread on the Interweb. IMO.

although very guilty of this myself in my earlier career it has reverted back to a list / picture parade of albums,

the and why would anyone be interested bit seems to have been lost in the mix again.

I tend to avoid it now.

I like to think of it as a record shop, spending hours looking through albums, admiring covers, investigating further about the artist and their catalog. That is easy enough to do on the internet, and I can easily enough make up my own mind about whether the exploring ultimately ends with a purchase. Repeated postings of the same cover only pique my interest further. The thread is where the seeds are planted, the journey from there to further discovery is the joy and if I make and ultimately like the purchase, I have shared something special with the original poster.

I am indebted to the people posting on that thread for significantly broadening my knowledge of what is available out there.

good listening, and I, also, thank Naim for that little piece of heaven.

ps. perhaps it is because the why is so rarely part of the discussion that the thread is the only non-contentious place here.

I find it quite good as a prompt to choose what to listen to sometimes. I look at the thread and think....mmm...haven't heard that in a while, i'll just pop it on...!

I too find it a good source of hints for discovering some new stuff'. Myspace etc lets us try stuff out once we have a name to home in on, but getting an initial stimulus is a helpful pointer. Sloop is right that the 'WMABI' part has largely fallen away - largely because the answer is ' 'cos I like it'.

Stuff it has pointed me to includes

Tord Gustavsen (now seen live 3 tines in 3 years - fantastic)
Ketil Bjornstadt
St Angela Hewitt
EST
Eric Bibb
Joe Bonamassa
Lizz Wright
Bic Runga
Numerous classical stuff (thanks to GFFJ)

My other source of new inspiration is my local Naim dealer who always has something to tempt me - and if he doesn't another customer does - e.g. this is a fantastic CD...no really fantastic..

Anyway back to Rickie Lee Jones's 1st album on the LP12, a 25 year delight I discovered when Russ Andrews was the Naim dealer in Edinburgh all those years ago..

I feel the same. I have been introduced to so many artists that I had never heard of before the thread. I don't mind the list of album covers because they prompt me to go to iTunes and listen. Keep the new stuff coming!
