What would would you like to see get the 4CD Box Set treatment?

Posted by: throbnorth on 23 July 2002

After contributing to the Pet Sounds thread, and mentioning the resplendant 4CD box set, I am moved to wonder which other albums you think would benefit from the same treatment? Fun House has had it [haven't heard it but would be interested to hear from those who have] and you could say that Sgt Pepper & Revolver have had it [just] via the Anthology series. But what else deserves it? We're talking more than you ever wanted to know here .....

I would kick off with Ziggy Stardust - the current anniversay edition is no doubt well meant, but falls far short of what we obsessives demand and need.

Hmmmm. I suppose The Beatles have released all their off-cuts (otherwise I'd love to hear all the bits and pieces that went to make up Sgt Pepper or Revolver.

So I'll settle first up on Beefheart's "Strictly Personal". Supposedly he didn't authorise (or like) all that phasing (which I think is great), so hearing the version that he wanted would be interesting.

I was soooooo tempted by that Stooges set, the album's an all-time favourite. But even I balked at the same tracks spattered over 7 CDs, and at $119 is wasn't a bargain. It's out of print now and it gnaws away....

Yup. Even if they went "One Two Three Four....Ooops! Sorry, re-take" that merited inclusion in the box.
