Money can't buy me love

I feel very sorry for Paul McCartney. I'm not a big fan, but I do think he has been half of the most important music created in the 20th century. Why some bint who marries him for 4 years is worth 25% of his earnings for that is just plain disgusting. I wish I was the divorce judge - I'd let her have twenty quid and ask her why she thinks she's entitled to more. I'd allocate his wealth against each event/song/album etc and measure her achievements alongside to assess her settlement. It probably wouldn't get to the twenty quid to be honest - I might have been too generous.

Maybe he could offer her all the money he has ever received for "Mull of soddin' Kintyre" as some form of absolution.

I wonder how much the legal fees will be by the time they are divorced?

The outcome of this case has implications for anyone whose assets are insufficient to fund a clean break when they divorce.

It remains an open question as to whether the Law Lords rulings will have a bearing on Paul McCartney and Heather Mills.

But there will almost certainly be a fresh impetus for reform of the divorce law which has remained largely unchanged since 1969.

Oh don't worry. M'learned friends are on to nice little earner - nothing they like more than a good divorce wrangle.

I just loved the beak's comments about "expectation of lifestyle" for a person going into a marriage.

If that isn't a gold digger's charter - I don't know what is.

Marriage is a contract. Whether the marriages have been arranged or Western style, finances have always been a part of that contract.

We should open a sweepstake on the McCartney divorce. My prediction for Heather - £50m

That'll be what the lawyer gets! Nah - she's on for £150M. The only limit will be her own sense of decency - don't hold your breath!

Betting on the settlement of a divorce is extremely distasteful. Put me down for £80m.
