LP12 45rpm adapter (A bit off topic, sorry)

Sorry this is a bit off-topic, I've searched previous messages, but couldn't find the answer to this:

I've seen comments about the 45rpm spindle adapter that used to be available for the LP12 saying that it can cause motor damage. It seems to me that the main period of extra stress on the motor is during start-up.

Can you (vastly) reduce the chances of motor damage, by giving the platter a helping hand when it's running up to speed?

The reason I ask is that I only have about ten or twelve 45rpm 7 and 10 and 12 inch singles, some of which I can't get the tracks on any other format. Thus I'd like to transfer them onto CD, and the spindle adapter (if damage risk can be minimised) would be an economical way to achieve this.

I think the motor damage is more likely to be related to the vertical force required to fit the adaptor.

IIRC this can be alleviated by resting an Allen key between the underside of the pulley and the top plate to take the load.

Thanks. Sounds like, as long as I'm careful, it'll cover my needs.
