slight hissing and crackling from naim nait 5i in standby: whats your experience?

I am the (proud) owner of a nait 5i for about two weeks now and from the beginning I noticed a slight hissing and crackling noise from the speakers even when I disconnected any sources (cd-player and tape only connected).
so this had to come from the 5i directly.
the noise gets worse when I turn up the volume.
its not something you would notice when standing a few feet away but its noticeable when you get close to the speakers (and more so with the "middle" speaker (sorry I am not a native English speaker so I dont know the right word for this...).
did any of you 5i owners notice something similar.
is this just the normal noise the 5i produces when turned up full?
I listened to a less expensive amp today at a hifi-dealer and the noise was hearable too although slightly less loud.
any help?
