PIC upgrade

I have a CDX and wonder how the upgrade is going, any problems? So far I have only 1 cd that has the normal problems to not being redbook correct or what ever that is (seems like it skipping but tho time counter works normally), my sony dvd player won't even play it but my mac plays it fine. I burned a copy on the mac and that works fine in the CDX. I would rather get the upgrade so I could use the original disc. Also are the other functions of the upgrade working ok? Any thoughts? Thanks Ted.

Let me get this right - the copy protection prevents it being played on a cd player, but when copied via your computer the copy plays ok on the cd player? Please send your experiences to Barry Fox who I'm sure will want to write about it in Hi-Fi News and expose these copy protection people for the laughing stock they are.

This just highlights the stupidity of the whole copy protection business. On the release of the CD someone cracks the protection and the results are on the web within a couple of days at the most and the record companies have only succeeded in alienating honest consumers who can't get it to play properly on their CDPs, have to provide replacements, then get adverse publicity in HIFI press and music mags etc. You would think they would get wise at sometime.

Can this PIC upgrade be a DIY job or does the dealer HAVE to do it?

Hi Mac

How much was the PIC? I have a CD3.5 and was considering it. I don't have any CP cds but I thought the idea of being able to search from the front panel would be useful.

I know skip/search are sinful facilities on principal - I've never used them to listen to a CD! But when I'm playing guitar and trying (in some cases badly) to learn a song, they're handy. My remote controls all live in a drawer away from daylight!]

PIC programming was part of my uni course - perhaps I can reprogram the eprom myself Red FaceP
