Pics of Naim Veneers (cherry/maple)?

Posted by: roach on 10 April 2003

Hi all,

I'm looking for some pictures of naim veneers as I might be buying intros and you can't really tell from those little pieces of wood at the dealer.

I've been to naim-audio.com and I'm not sure which veneers are which.

Cheers

Maple is lighter, almost white. Cherry is browner, some pictures artificially given them an orange tint.

Tony,

what are they like to live with? they look a little dark for my tastes.

I am consider an ex dem pair of NBL's in ebony and having seen your photo, the colour may be overpowering.

What do you think?

NB,

Here is another shot of them. They fit very well into my room as we have a lot of dark furniture. I think the finish looks nice on a small cabinet, not sure about big ones though.

Roach :- are you sure that they are ebony, ebony veneers are normally darker than that ,almost black in colour, they are also very expensive and as ebony is extremely hard to machine they are not usally
availble as domestic veneers, yours looks more like mahogany.

oldie,

That's what it said on the tin!

ProAc mahogony isn't usually quite that dark (I have a mahogonly pair of Response 2's). Those do look like ProAc ebony to me - it is redder rather than the blacker ebony.

Just got the word that our Cherry Allaes were looked over by NANA in Chicago and deemed, "Not fit for human consumption." So it will be two weeks before we get them, but they will be a fresh pair from Salisbury Smile

In Naim speakers, there is no price difference between Cherry & Maple. Santos Rosewood costs more, but that's it.

We had a pair of light ash floorstanders (Kestrel 2's) in the house for a few weeks and they were too light-colored with our other decor. They stuck out like sore thumbs from Day 1 and we never got used to this. Also, the effect of the wood in your room differs dramatically for standmounts v. floorstanders.

Here's one of my SBLs from the front.

The rays change with the light in the room.

Roach

I'm sure your speakers are lovely. However, with Naim Speakers as the subject of the thread, the colour of proacs in Ebony would appear to be well west of the appearance of Naim speakers in Ebony. If you get my drift.

Hmmmmm

How long would it take for an Oak tree to grow to the size required to single sheet veneer a DBL? 100, 200 or500 years maybe? Nice thinking but not that environmentally friendly perhaps.

Anyway in answer to the original request here's another pic of a typical Naim veneer again.
