Pics of Naim Veneers (cherry/maple)?
Posted by: roach on 10 April 2003
Hi all,
I'm looking for some pictures of naim veneers as I might be buying intros and you can't really tell from those little pieces of wood at the dealer.
I've been to naim-audio.com and I'm not sure which veneers are which.
Cheers
Tony

Is this a joke, or is your right speaker so close to side wall even when you listening?

Joke? Being a bit rude there aren't we?
I take it that you own Credos and have tried this particular arrangement and maybe it didn't work for you then? (Or are you just another know nothing know it all who likes to spout opinion and theory ?)
Credos are a very flexible speaker and seem to work in all manner of unconventional ways you know.

I enjoyed the pics and seeing where people put their speakers in real-world rooms.
We are considering rearranging our room and I'm expecting that we will have many more arrangment options with the Allaes that with the Meadowlark speakers I had at home for a few weeks.

Kestrel 2's - very good speaker for the money. I read a review of the Swifts and the reviewer's only fault with the speaker was a slight added reverberation to the sound. This is different from the midrange honk you read about with Meadowlarks, which does eventually go away with several hundred hours of run-in. I heard what I beleive is this extra reverberation with the Kestrel 2's, but, honestly, they were not fully run in when I returned them.
Shearwater Hot Rods - VERY DIFFERENT sound from the Kestrel or Kestrel 2's. I think this is down to Vifa v. ScanSpeak drivers, but at any rate the Shearwaters had a very laid back midrange on the end of my Nait 5. Wayyy too laid back for our tastes - not involving at all. Amazing bass extension though. Returned 'em in a week.
If I had to live with one on the end of my Nait 5, it would be the Kestrel 2, no question.
I've not heard Intros so can't compare Kestrel 2's to Intros

How about a report on how the Meadowlark's sounded?

P, you've got good wood!
I think your SBLs and Maxwellspeeds Credo's have got some of the best finish's I've seen.
My Credos look a bit boring in comparison:
The Corras rack (don't knock it till you try it) is more swirly and interesting!

Hi Alex
I know. I know. The Credos "shouldn't" work there like that should they? They do though.
Ever since I plonked them in and hooked up the LP12 and the Nait 1 I've been totally amazed at what they can do.
Are your Neats rear ported? Before I put the Credos in that room I tried my old rear ported MS20's on Heybrook SB1 stands in the same position and there really was a monumentally nasty honking mid bass bloom. Hard to achieve at the best of times. The Credos have that quirky horizontal air gap and don’t honk at all so maybe they're much less position sensitive? They’re not perfect but neither’s that room (for those familiar with these things it’s a typical 4 bed detached new build style house and this room is bedroom 4 ie small and with a sloping ceiling)
Have to say I was quite pleasantly surprised they worked as well as they did there though because the intention was to sell them on when we moved house. I never would now though. They’re part of the family.
Here’s a pic from the other end of the room. Another example of something that shouldn’t work but does! The rack is an old Apollo thing that I had from my pre Audiophool days (seems weird looking back to the late 80’s before t’internet and all of that). Now I really don’t like this rack – the thing is quite hideous. However it’s now using the very long spikes from the Heybrook stands and the top MDF shelf has an access hatch for spring fettling ala QS ref. To be honest it was only ever intended as a jig to learn the foibles of LP12 tweakin’ and I fully intended getting a Mana stand but this thing sounds good so I’m loathe to change! Weird eh?
Apologies to Ozren if I seemed a bit “off on one” earlier. I don’t like Monday mornings.

...you could try a sock in the port.
Desperate measure I know, but may help until you can find better speakers for your room.

great pix, mate! You know, with that rack you really owe it to yourself to try an additional beside it to house the hicaps, XPS and power amp.... and perhaps an isolation shelf in the middle of the source rack to make the CDX more convenient to use. I trust there are spikes in the base of the rack? You could always canibalise another rack to make a base level a-la Hutter. and speaking of which, it's about as well finished at what, one sixteenth of the price? Well done!
P - Steve's correct, they are possibly the best looking credos ever seen. Now - what's that deck lurking at the bottom of the LP12 rack??
Rico - SM/Mullet Audio
Oh yeah - Steve those are the best Beech credos I've seen.
Still, 'shame they've never made credos in Black Ash!
Anyone got a piccy of Ebony credos?

Hmmmmm
Who let this nutter in?
Maybe if we just ignore him he'll go away to seek some attention elsewhere. Poor thing. Mad deaf and blind. Shame.
Rico - there's nothing inneressin or mysterious on the bottom of the rack. It's an old Sony tuner thing that does the radio bit now and again when I can't think of a record I wanna hear (not often I might add)
BTW I quite agree. Maxwellspeeds Credos have the best finish I've ever seen on a pair of speakers anywhere! Are they for real?

Ozren, are you running from an 'original' in the box cross over?
If so I think you would benifit significantly with an external naim cross over.
No messing, it opened my Credos right up.

Hey Simone
Chill out
You obviously have some sort of difficulty grasping the concept of a site dedicated to Naim Audio and their enthusiasts but that's OK - it takes all sorts to make a world.
Now don't take this the wrong way but having checked back through your previous postings here, well I think you're maybe just a little bit jealous of us all. Is it because you don't have the intelligence to figure out how to work a camera or is it becaue you just can't afford to buy one. Which one? Do go on.
