Phone Sky and tell them you're moving. They'll give you a better deal than Virgin will give you!

I'm happy with the deal I got from Sky when I said I was thinking about moving ( TV, phone and Braodband for £20pm... ) and I loath Branson.

Maybe but it always only for three months, and apart from the very basic package the only other channels i have are the sports and that is only for the rugby season [ i can`t stand soccer ] also we were looking to see if the virgin package and fibre optic broadband was better as a whole, also ESPN is standard and they have the lions share of the premiership rugby so wondered if anyone had experience of both

Is the BT TV package worth a look?
Posted on: 06 September 2010 by Eloise
Maybe worth a look, maybe not, but Sky are going to be introducing Internet TV streaming to your Sky HD box in the autumn.
Also I found Virgin gave great headline price, but somehow the price always crept upwards.

I think Virgin engineering service may be better than Sky, from what my friends with Sky tell me.
Last week, our builders put a spade through the cable from the road (in several places!) cutting off all my sevices, but the Virgin van turned up in less than an hour after my call. He cheerily replaced the entire length of buried cable, and there was no charge, despite the damage being done on my property.

I know two people trying to get Sky broadband and they have suffered quite significant delays in getting the Sky phone line connected and hence the broadband connected.
Looks as if the current Sky package is a little too attractive.

It depends on what you want from broadband, if it is a simple browsing package then people like Sky and Virgin are OK, but if you you have heavy demands for internet use, bit-torrent, web hosting, FTP, then I would not any of the TV & ISP packages.
Have been very happy with Sky for satellite TV, sports and multichannel. I use Sky player a lot on my computer for sports too.
I have my internet with Zen.

Been with Sky for broadband and TV for some time now. However, £5 a month reverted to £15 with a remarkable speed drop. They offer £12.50 for new customers and £7.50 with Sky Talk so I rang up and asked what they could do. These people never learn. "Well, you signed up for it" were the exact words. MAC code obtained and moved to O2. Speed moved instantly from 2.6 to 4.1!

It sounds as though your use of the net will not affect your decision much, the packages they are offering would probably all suit you for that.
It is really down to what channels you want to have, and how much you wish to pay. I have found Sky have a lot of channels to choose from, and have found it worthwhile as I enjoy sports and have their Sports package.
If it is just for a few TV channels, then I would find out what bargains are on offer, and judge by price. Either that or see who offers the most rugby for the same sort of price.
I am just wondering about ESPN America for the US football/NFL season, but will have Sky Sports for their coverage of that plus the cricket. Not bothered by soccer like you, and after the world cup found the game a travesty (or perhaps a chav-esty).

Yes i think in the end that`s what it will come down to,i just need to consolidate all of the services and save money because on the tv all i need are the standard channels + children`s channels

sadly my misses loves sky the full package of which 80% is trollop all for about 58-50 a month and its about to go up 2-50 a month. I honestly could never see what was wrong with just the normal few channels. maybe its i am getting old.

You may be getting old but at forty years old i find myself getting even more short tempered [ which is saying something ] and a right grumpy bastard to boot

I had Sky (read that as the same as Virgin & the other pay TV providers) for a few years.
After the first enthusiasm of the new toy, we ended up watching mostly BBC & ITV & some others all available on Freeview.
Apart from Nat-Geo (with its US subliminal propaganda) & a few others, it was a waste of money & time
I got rid after the 2nd year & am now only using selected programs on Freeview
BT seems to do an OK job on the Broadband - but as always could do better
Why ?? Movies & its repeats, 24/7 sport & repeats of repeats of mundane uninspired 2nd rate trash seriously affects your physical & metal health. it starts off with habitual viewing (just 'cause we have it) & (it's on so we watch it) which leads to premature senility & terminal boredom.
But most important is we now get out more, we talk, go places, do things - got a life.
(Still retained the grumpy ol' git persona tho')

LOL,
I only watch selected programs and i like the discovery channels [ how do they do it/make it,extreme engineering and the like ] and i certainly do not tolerate the soaps on my tv. I definitely agree with you on the movie`s they seem to play them around the clock and to the death. I have also enjoyed the latest run of who do you think you are on BBC1 Hugh Quarshie was good and i wonder how many people this series has inspired to trace their family tree ???.
Being a stay at home dad/house husband or whatever you wish to call it i do get glazed over eyes with all the children`s tv and it amazes me how much of it is politically correct

funny you should say that deadlifter - I am into a number family things
The family tree is a long & not so easy as it looks on TV project that might be a year or two to get done.
But most recently I have been delving into my fathers history in the parachute regiment and his actions at Arnhem
He was KIA and nothing much else is known, but various www links have all sorts of snippets for copy/paste & only last week I went on a research visit & meeting various people in Arnhem & Oosterbeek. It has enabled me to string together something close to his last hours, excellent results & very satisfying for myself & the family as a whole, but especially for my mother.
November takes me to South Africa (not again !!!) for 4 weeks where I have recently found out that my great grand father served army time 1898 thru 1905 & were his brother is buried - which previously I knew nothing whatsoever about.
So apart from photographing pussy kats & eli's, I am spending a few days based in Dundee KZN & the museum & battlefields.
Don't do that watching the Skybox

Have you tried the Para`s themselves for the history and his career
Posted on: 07 September 2010 by Tarquin Maynard - Portly
Plenty of the guys at Arnhem where not actually Parachute Regiment.
If you are trying to track down some history of your late relative, Google the Army Rumour Service - ARRSE - and ask questions there. A great deal of knowledge there, plus some bullplop of course. A subject like this will be treated well and you'll get some good advice.

Thanks for the tips guys, I have done all your suggestions plus a load more, I am not really looking for help on this
I have stuff that even the army & para's don't know, so I guess I am well ahead of the posse on all this.
Anyhow, we are off topic, back to the Skybox question
