Left Powered Up?

Posted by: BellyHibee on 28 March 2003

I read some time ago that it was beneficial to leave amplifiers powered up at all times(well mostly)to improve sound.I understand this will keep the amp at a nice running temp for quality listening.Only purchased my Nait 3 last month and my question is will it be ok left powered up?
I also have a slight problem with electrical interference, the fan on my heating system when it kicks in causes the speakers to crackle(most annoying)any ideas how to stop this?
(the crackle lasts about 1/2 a second when switching on and off)
cheers

leave it turned on.

As for the heater, difficult, my fridge causes all sorts of noises and apart from getting a seperate spur for the sistem I don't know what else to offer.

As Garyi says; leave everything on.

Don't put a mains conditioning device on the Hi-Fi - they seem to have a deleterious effect on the music. You should be able to buy some sort of mains spike, suppresion device to connect to the heater fan.

Alternatively; a separate spur to the Hi-Fi should help (and make it sound better). Connect the spur before the consumer unit if possible.

Good luck.

The best advice is, to if possible leave everything powered up if this is not practible at least keep the pre amps powered for best results. As regards your mains supply problems I agree with all the advice given regarding using a dedcated spur if you can, but I would only add do not fit a MCB in the circuit but stick with the old fasioned fuse the one I useis the cartridge type rated at 30 amps. I was also advised many years ago that if it is posible connect the cable on the unswitched [live] side of the consumer unit, that way it will minimise the chance of picking up dirty mains
But get an electricianto do it for you or else you will not enjoy your system for long
enjoy the music.
