Another NAIT 3 question (tape sockets) - sorry!

Also, can someone tell me why a QED tape switcher will NOT work on a NAIT3's tape DIN? Is this something to do with common earth on the 5pin DIN system?
I had my 2 tape decks and Sony MD wired up via the box as with the Mira, and could get only VERY VERY quiet output from the tape deck (whichever one was selected on the QED at the time) when on either Tape or Mon. Wiring directly from NAIT to any of the devices worked flawlessly; I have 3 DIN leads I can use, so can swap the leads when I need to play tapes or MDs, but it's a pain - so wandered why this wouldn't work...
I've now also got to find a way of wiring my 8track to the system again, but we'll keep quiet about that one
When the music's over turn out the lights
