Daniel Lanois tour

He´s doing two shows here in stockholm. Went last night. Very, very good. Superb trio.
First rate performance.
He´s doing a couple of more shows in europe.
Look at www.daniellanois.com
If you have the opportunity don´t miss this.
Very nice gesture of him by meeting the audience after the show.

Love Acadie, apart from the recording quality. How would you rate his album Shine?
I have the first two albums, and I have always considered the recorded quality very good ?

Shine is excellent. Characteristically heavy on the "Lanois" production but I love it. I just wish he'd make more recordings.

I would rate it on par with "Beauty of Wynona".
IMHO, Him performing the new tracks live actually made them better by slicing off some of the glossy shine that the new album is having. Anyway, Shine is a safe buy, though not reaching up to the magic of Acadie.
Interesting with your view on the recording quality of Acadie. Apart from "the maker" I find the recording top rate. Perhaps my gear is masking something that yours lets through?
Try to catch his show in London.

In the innersleve you´ll find notes on how Acadie were recorded. I´m at work now so can´t check. But if my memory serves me right I think that the maker´s basic track were recorded elsewhere (perhaps on a portable?)and he layed the voice and git. on top of that in the studio.
I have both the cd and Lp (Us pressings both)
and surprisingly there is little to gain on vinyl with what I have on playback. Both sounding tremendeous in my ears.
I think your right about atmosphere. "Joshua tree" has the same signature imo. In my ears also "Us".

I really loved Acadie, while Wynona didn't catch me as much, but I think Shine might be his best so far. The songs are great!
As to recording quality, I've always felt they sounded very warm and analog. However, they've got that typical "shrouded" quality that Lanois tends to foster. Without shimmering highs, etc., it's easy to dismiss the recording quality as poor. Having say that, I wouldn't suggest that it's "audiophile" quality.

Yes, and even if I still hold Acadie higher, the new songs are really excellent and they came through even better when performed live by DL, Brian Blade and Daryl Johnson.
I agree it´s not "audiophile" recordings but his own work have a special feel, an perhaps "organic feel" that I appreciate.

Can`t comment on the Sheppards Bush Empire but here he played Nalen wich is a old and quite small dance hall wich is very nicely renovated. He said he´d chosen venues on this tour with special care.
Nalen has no seats and a bar in the next room.
Small place and no probs getting a place in the audience to your liking. I was standing about 1,5 m from the stage. No crowding.
As I mentioned he went down on the floor after the concert and had a talk with those in the audience who wanted to. Never happened to me before. Very nice fellow.
Anyone´s going to the gig in Dublin will most likely see U2 getting on stage with him there, he said.

PR,
Shine is well worth investigating on several fronts: good production, good songs and also good musicians... My missus rates it as the best CD I've purchased so far this year... What more can I say...
